  • Does anyone else find all the hype over the flu odd?  I just read that 85 people have died nationwide.  That is tragic for them and their families, but we have over 350 MILLION people in this country.  That is hardly an epidemic.

In 2016 40 THOUSAND (40,000) people died in auto accidents and no one is hyperventilating over those deaths.

What is the point in getting people all worked up over the flu? Is it just being used as a distraction?

  • I'm not terribly concerned about fatalities, but I am reading these headlines and hoping we can avoid any major illnesses in our house. We're scheduled for some routine doctor visits on Monday and I'm wondering what sort of precautions I can take to lower any chances of catching something while we're out.

  • Headlines keep saying it’s “bad” but I can’t find any numbers to support that statement. I saw one headline about this year being the “worst in history”, clicked on story - total hysteria, not one fact!

  • Flu vaccine?
That was my first thought.  This flu is being built up in the media to push flu vaccine and to promote vaccines in general.

    What precautions can you take?
    1. Don't go to the doctor.
    2. Don't do routine doctor visits during flu season.
    3. Try to stay away from crowded areas.
    4. Don't use public facilities.
    5. Wash your hands frequently,  especially if you have been out.
    6. Put an onion in a bowl in each room in your house.
    7. Get an essential oil diffuser (or more than one) and diffuse germ killing oils such as lemon, thieves, orange, lavender, etc.
    8. Anyone who works or goes to school outside the house can strip down and shower immediately when returning home.  Wash those clothes immediately.  Germs can be carried on clothing as well as people.

    You're absolutely right....total hysteria.

  • The only time I’ve ever had the flu in my 60+ years of life was the year I caved to family pressure and got the vaccine. Was sicker than dead for 2 weeks and slow to bounce back to 100%. Was probably 5-6 weeks before I was back to normal. I was in my early 30’s at the time.

This seems to be the rule rather than the exception.  My husband and I refuse to get it.

Be very cautious hanging around the waiting room at the doctor's office! A lot of those patients don't need to be there but they're contagious anyway.
    .
They might appreciate your calling in and seeing if they'd be able to re-schedule you, for your own good and to free up some space on their crowded calendar. They don't have any room for walk-ins. It might save you some grief!!

    .
That's really kind of funny. I have the same outlook. I only got the "flu shot" once and got sick that year. I generally don't get sick at all, while others I know get the flu shot and get sick anyway.
    .
I like to think about how they develop the vaccine. They admit they have to choose which strain to focus on months ahead of time so they can breed all the vaccine serum in chicken eggs, which takes TIME. They have to do all that work before the flu season starts, and before they really know which strain will become the prominent problem. They have to choose between a number of strains, perhaps dozens of them, and the vaccine they develop to fight one strain is not effective on most of the other strains.
    .
Then comes flu season, and even in the best case, that they have zeroed in on the right strain, the whole point of this flu shot program is that THE SHOT PREVENTS THE SPREAD OF THE FLU. So let's say they peg the strain, give the shots, and it works on those who receive it. That's the best case. Then how could that be the strain that is the most prominent as a problem? If it was fought by the shot, wouldn't it have been suppressed?
    .
What is more likely to occur, is that the strain they vaccinate against never does become the problem strain because the vaccination keeps it from getting spread around. Therefore, some OTHER strain, one that is not fought by the flu shot, is the one that everyone ought to be getting the shot for, but there are no such shots since that isn't the strain that was identified for duplication and distribution in flu shots.
    .
So the whole thing is way off kilter, logically considered.
    .
I heard one PSA saying, "It's not too late to get the flu shot! Usually the flu season starts in February!" (Implication -- hurry on in to get your shot before it's too late!) But PLEASE tell me when do you hear any report that identifies the problem flu that everyone is getting as the SAME FLU that the serum was prepared to fight against. I have yet to hear that, in any year. The only reports I've heard is that they guessed pretty well but missed the mark this year, better luck next year. Duuuh.
    .
My wife got sick for over a week with a 100.4 temp. but the day I felt a little tickle in my throat that's usually the first clue of a head cold or a fever, I took a 6-ounce glass of alkaline water with one tablet of Airborne (similar generic) and drank it down. The next morning I was entirely fine, no throat soreness, and a week later now no sign of sickness.
    .
For those who'd like to know, Linus Pauling was a Catholic and he said that Vitamin C in sufficient doses is a tremendous preventative for many contagious flus.
    .
The tablet (like Airborne) that dissolves in water with bubbling action is the best Vitamin C for flu prevention IMHO. Trader Joe's has "Emergen-C" which comes in a packet of powder. It's a little less expensive than Airborne for the same amount of product. Then various drug stores have Airborne-like tablets, generic, for a lower price.
