  • I used to work out for at least an hour and a half a day. Would swim several laps, do push ups and bench presses. Working out really gets you in good spirits the rest of the day. But I've had to cut that down to 20 minutes or less these days for other reasons. Not good, but hope to start again soon enough, Lord willing.

  • Well I'm back from a killer workout at the pool.  It does wonders for everything, including needing less sleep, getting stuff done more quickly and feeling grateful for what we have.  It's so glorious, the water and sun with my kids.

It's horribly expensive to swim indoors in the winter around here, so I always end up gaining weight during Christmas, even if I fast for Advent.  I have found homeschooling to be sort of fattening, because it's so homey, cooking, baking, sitting around due to learning styles.

I love the water because it's low impact and high resistance, but mostly because it elevates my spirits and I get twice as much done.  No wonder people love to live on the sunny coastlines!

What do you wear for a bathing suit? I only own immodest ones and now I am
debating spending $$$ on a "modest" suit or just not swimming in public at all anymore.

Just look at the exposed shoulder on the girl at right, how saucy! And the knee clearly visible through the hosiery of the tart at left, what a temptress! And our sinful young man is boldly grasping them both about the waist!

    LOL just kidding.

Land's End has a long skirt and I use a modest top.  They have really nice "rash guards". They have awesome online sales with free shipping if you get on their list.  Their stuff is well made and long lasting.  Also you can look up UV protective swimwear and you'll see a number of sensible but not weird items.  There are modest swimwear companies but they are too weird-looking.

I still firmly believe that the comportment of a lady makes the difference in what she wears.  This is easily observed at the beach or at Mass.

A nun told me to make the effort to go swimming at the times when mostly Moms are out, and when at the beach to go early in the morning, when I asked about modesty and swimming.  It goes without saying that leaving the pool and having a meal or going to the car that we wear a modest cover, and keep our daughters modest from the start.  I never allow mine to walk anywhere without a cover, even to the car.

  • PS I wear a long skirt over snow pants for sledding!  (I'm a pathetic skier and can't afford to do it anymore anyway.)

  • Theology, the little boy I am babysitting is being a stinker and not staying and bed. He just came up behind the couch and saw my screen and asked if the man in that picture was in jail.   :laugh1:

I hate to even joke about swimwear because my collection is so embarrassing. I never wore anything like the trashy neon string bikinis you see at Wal-Mart, (I actually wasted a ton of money on mine) but what I did wear was definitely immodest.  I just have so many regrets for the way I used to think about these things. Or not think about them, I should say.

Thanks for the information, Elizabeth.  I will have to check out Land's End. I thought the skirts were maybe still to short, but it is weird to think of not swimming anymore.  I grew up at the beach/pool and used to be a lifeguard.

Not that I could afford that.

Kids are great, aren't they? I must admit when looking for a pic like that i did see some ads for modern modest suits and wow, how on earth does anyone get away with charging that much money for a swimsuit? Cheapest one I saw was like $90. You ladies get ripped off on clothing. My shorts were $10.

  • Well modest clothes in general aren't too bad.  You can find long skirts just about anywhere for not too much $.

The modest swimwear is probably pricey because it is a specialty item and not something from a mainstream retailer.

    ...and yes, kids are great!

Well I think it;s just because women are more willing to pay more for less...

I have really kind of fallen in love with thrift stores and garage sales.  It takes a little more time to find things that work, but it is worth it.  I have always loved clothes and it is nice to be able to get something for just $2-3 dollars.

Living so frugally has been a very, very good thing for me.
