Gluttony is also a sin.  To over eat and become obese is very harmful to the body and harms the temple of the holy ghost.

True. But I have not had one person give a reason of why they are fat without saying: I have a this/that health problem. Nah you just take in more than you burn.

Both of my parents smoked periodically. None of my siblings (6) nor I smoke. I thought it was a a bad habit - everyone has a few. Also, there’s many drugs that cause you to gain weight - almost every heart drug, drugs like steroids for autoimmune diseases, and medications for psychiatric conditions. I have personally am about 40 lbs heavier since beginning some 5 years ago. Like almost 10 lbs/year. I do not eat poorly and try to avoid carbs and snacks. It’s ironic because it’s terrible for my health, but there’s not many options except to get a new heart. Not happening anytime soon.

Smoking is probably not great, but lets talk about eating to the point you are fat/obese....

Never hear about that one.
Obesity is worse than smoking.  With smoking you can totally quit.  With overeating you can change but never completely quit eating, therefore the temptation is always with you.

As for the bad example to children, not only do they see what you're eating but it's there for them to consume also.  With smoking the product is not there for their consumption.

Drive past a high school and look at the young teens.  In my city many, far too many are at least 30-40 pounds overweight.  This didn't come from any medication.
Add in the lack of exercise and these young people are a heart attack waiting to happen.
In my family there have been heavy smokers.  Some died at 87-106 years old.  No heart attacks, cancer etc.  But they were active!!!!
Must be the genes.

I wish priests would do sermons on gluttony, it's a big problem in the west.
