Title: Do you British People eat this for breakfast?
Post by: Drolo on May 31, 2025, 03:23:19 AM
I've tried the "English breakfast" at a snack bar. It's this:

It cost €6. I think the price is good. But this is very filling and feels more like a heavy lunch than a breakfast  :laugh1:

We grew up eating egg'n'chips and beans on toast but never really had the bangers thrown in.  My parents had my older sister and brother in England, emigrated to the U.S. and had me and two younger brothers.  I'd tell friends what we were eating and it didn't really compute.  They just didn't get it.  Pretty funny.

That's a huge meal.  Man, for breakfast I'll have an apple with some peanut butter or something.

For some people that would break the fast and fuel for the rest of the day.

It looks delicious! :jester:

Yes, that picture is making me hungry ... looks to be a great blend of proteins (different kinds), fats, just enough carbs ... and much delicious flavor.

The 'classic' breakfast was very much what British people ate in the past when the ingredients were cheap and working hours much longer than today's. These days the items are much more expensive and most people, including myself, have much simpler fare and quicker to prepare.

IMHO superior to the English breakfast is the Irish version with both black and white puddings.   Better still, as a personal taste, the best breakfast of all is undyed smoked haddock with a poached egg.

All such things much easier when someone else does the cooking whilst staying in an hotel etc.

Yes, I remember the puddings.  Also, smoked salmon. Yum.

British breakfast so good. Brits always get stereotyped as having bland food. That's bs.

While I prefer the English, the black pudding (typically made of pig blood) might be nice to consume in front of some Jews or Muslims, and you could threaten to throw it at them.  For the Jews both blood and pork are "unclean", so black pudding would contaminate them perhaps for years.  :laugh1:

I was around after Israel was founded in 1948. I remember my mother telling me the Jews were not a bad people as some were saying, that they gave employment in their factories to young women like her that would never have found paid work. I remember when Jew families left Ireland in their droves to join their new State in the 40s and 50s. Shops used to have sections of food especially for Jєωιѕн customers. Now all gone.

Well, there are some Jews (and that's true of every group) who are not "bad people" NATURALLY SPEAKING, as not a few of them opposite the genocide and other evils perpetrated by the Israeli government.

But that's true of almost every group and really should go without saying.  Every times someone criticizes Jews for their various nefarious activites, he shouldn't have to always add the disclaimer "but of course not ALL Jews are guilty of this".  That's just stupid.

It's almost like where I have to post "in my opinion" on every post here on CathInfo, where it's OBVIOUSLY my opinion.  What else would it be?

My post Ladislaus, was not meant to be aimed at anyone's opinion of Jews, but merely to record a memory of my boyhood.
As Catholics we were reared to know the Jews crucified Jesus which led to a dislike of Judaism. My ma just let her kids know not all were bad people. I anticipated someone asking was it the black and white pudding in Ireland that caused them to leave Ireland to go to Israel.
