  • When my great grandmother from (at-the-time-Communist) Hungary visited us, she marvelled at all the selection at the grocery stores ... 50 brands and flavors of just about any product out there.

I feel like we're descending into becoming a 3rd world country ... in addition to having become a banana republic with an illegitimate and fraudulently-elected tinpot dictator.

I just read this post as I was pulling into a major chain gas station on my way to work.

I get inside and notice there’s no donuts.  I don’t mean there were only a few, or that they all sold before I arrived.  I mean all the trays were perfectly clean and empty.

So jokingly, I ask the cashier if this is a consequence of the supply chain crisis, and he says, “The truck never even showed up last night.  They don’t have enough drivers.”

Now, this little anecdote, along with my recent experiences at major grocery stores (all of which feature patches of empty shelves here and there, but still 80-85% full otherwise) tells me that there are across the board food shortages (based on deliberate logistic issues), and the food sellers are trying to compensate by strategically rotating deliveries of various products to various stores (so today the store is out of donuts; tomorrow it will have donuts, but be out of breakfast sandwiches, while another store is out of donuts, but has breakfast sandwiches, etc.).

Obviously, that is not a sustainable solution, because if the logistics/driver shortage gets worse, you would see more and more empty shelves, and rationing will increase.

  • it is a short step from encouraging "take only what you need" to "we will tell you what you are allowed to buy".

  • Word on the street is that the reason this is happening in DC is because drivers are unwilling to pick up the load/route to supply Mordor on the Potomac.  It is more an issue of protest/civil disobedience as opposed to an actual shortage of goods that can be sent to DC.

I think about this every time I see shortages at our grocery store(s).

It's not just about there being NO food -- it's about there being only ONE kind of frozen microwaveable bowl dinner.

"What do you want, 50 varieties to choose from across 5 major brands of frozen microwaveable bowl dinner"?

My answer is an un-ironic "YES!" This is supposed to be A) America B) in peacetime, C) with no nationwide natural disasters going on, D) in a free country without the Communist yoke, the land of opportunity, where anyone with a good idea (or recipe) can go into business, and if there sufficient demand, a viable business and living can be made.

I know my emphatic "YES" makes me sound a bit spoiled, and my complaining about lack of choices sounds like a classic "first world problem". (But now that I think about it, I don't like that "First World Problems" meme. It's preparing us to accept our place among the Third Worlders.) The fact is that it's a valid question: Why SHOULDN'T there be 50 varieties of microwave bowl available at my grocery store? If we're moving to a more sustainable society, where men are paid more, women stay at home with the kids, everyone owns a modicuм land and grows a small amount of their own produce -- then sure, I can do without. I'm willing to give up some of my American luxury for a more sane and Catholic world. But that's not our world. Given the modern world we actually live in, there is NO REASON why we shouldn't have that kind of variety in our stores.

I'll never forget the Soviet "gum" that someone brought in to class when I was in school. I didn't try it, but it was quite nasty, according to the students who did.

Never thought of that, good point.

I remember reading like 40 years ago that Miami had the highest crime rate of all the cities in the USA, New York city was second. I was living in Miami, and the only crimes there were, was in the black neighborhoods, they were killing themselves. If I remember correctly the rate for Miami was 18 (out of every 100,000 people? It matters little as the number was 18) and New York was 17. Then I read that the crime rate in Washington DC which was not included in the study of cities because it is not considered a city (District of Columbia), the crime rate was 76!!! Thats' over 400% higher than Miami. I figured Washington DC is just one big really bad black neighborhood.

I could understand why no truckers want to go in there. In the Miami black neighborhoods all the food stores were burned down by the residents. The blacks in Miami are very violent, nobody goes into those neighborhoods unless they are lost, or are going to buy drugs, or unfortunately live there.

Try Polish cigarettes or shaving cream back in the PRL days and shortly thereafter.  An absolute joke.

  • I see more and more vegan Frankenfood on the shelves of regular supermarkets.

At a health food store, they are selling flavored insects.

I’m starting to think that all those survival shows and intermittent fasting fads was to prepare for the future.

The good news is that Lent is coming and we can pray and fast.
May God bless you and keep you

I have yet to be convinced that these so-called "plant-based" meats don't already contain insect "proteins".

They're proven to be incredibly high in soy isoflavones, which act like estrogen in mammals (and human beings).  Another attempt to feminize men and create another generation of soy-boys.

I have no idea what the big deal is with "Impossible" burgers and meats.  They've had soy-based meat replacements for a very long time now, but they pretend this is revolutionary.  I wouldn't be surprised if there's human flesh in there somehow ... as part of another Satanic joke played on humanity.

I remember that I immediately quit drinking or eating any and all soy products years ago once I learned that little fact on 4chan. :laugh1:

Nothing, absolutely nothing, surprises me anymore, so I wouldn't be able to fake it if that were indeed the case. I know my own state already allows for bodies to be liquified as a form of disposal, so I'm sure that's all mixed in our ground water.

All I know is, these "impossible burgers" taste heavily like beets, because they're mostly soy and beets. Yuck.
