  • The other day while searching for home remedies on the internet, I stumbled upon this thing called Buteyko Breathing.  It is a technique that is supposed to help with a number of different maladies from asthma to acid reflux.  I don't have all the specifics (I'm waiting for a book from the library) but as I understand it, it works by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the body which ultimately will restore the body to its proper alkaline state.

One of the most important aspects of this technique is to breathe through the nose exclusively, including at night.  So, I decided to give that much a try and ... wow.  First of all, it's been pretty hard for me, which just goes to show how often I breathe through my mouth.  Secondly, my nearly compulsive morning throat-clearing seems to be fixed.

There are some breathing exercises that go along with the program and I am hoping they are outlined in the book I have ordered.  If there's interest, I would be happy to share them here.

As an aside ... if carbon dioxide is as important to our health as the Buteyko people allege (and I believe them to be correct), why are the climate people telling us it's bad?  Hmm.
