  • Does anyone have any tips for me to lose 90 pounds? I am not obese. But, I am very overweight. I am 5"11 250 pounds. Does anyone on here have any advice on losing weight? I also have Plaque Psoriasis and it messes up my insulin. I don't have diabetes. But, I am at risk for that later in life including Arthritis. What should I do? God bless.

  • Keto diet and exercise. YouTube has tons of videos on it and people who have lost like 300 lbs. The key is exercise, without it, the body eventually adjusts to the new food intake and the fast weight losses come to a halt.

  • What Matto describes is called "intermittent fasting" and if you mix it with exercise and Keto, you'll get results fast!

  • I lost a lot of weight by eating only dinner every day for a few months.
    This is a really good method.  For many people, they need to work up to it.  Start with eating 3 meals a day, no snacks, 12 hours between end of supper and beginning of next day breakfast.  Keep increasing the amount of time with no food.  Get down to 2 meals a day in a 6-8 hour window.  Then get down to one meal a day.  This helps to lose weight and stabilize insulin.

    Avoid processed food, especially carbohydrates and "vegetable" oils.
    Eat a minimum of 30 grams of protein at every meal.

    Walk for one hour every day - all at once or several times that add up to it.
    Do some form of weight training (lifting or body weight) two or three times a week.

    Fruit is not as healthy as most people think.  Fructose, the form of sugar in fruit, leads to fatty liver disease which will worsen insulin/diabetes issues.

    I trained with weights from the time I was 20 till I was like 47. Professional body builders are the guinea pigs at the pinnacle of quick body change science. They have to eat massive amounts of food to build those ridiculously large muscles and when contest time comes, they have to lose the surface fat to expose the veins and muscles. The winning of a contest all depends on getting the timing of the final weight loss down to the minute of time. You see, if they begin too early their muscles will not have the fuel they need to grow and they will lose size. If they begin the fasting too late they will look bloated. The way that they lost the surface fat 20 years ago, when I was keeping up with the science was that they fasted (reduced their food intake) for two days and ate normal the third day. That way they fooled the body to not go into starvation mode, a mode that the body goes into when it senses that it is not getting food. The body adjusts itself to live off of less food. If someone goes into starvation mode then goes back to eat as always, they will gain even more weight than they lost in their diet.

    That is likely where the idea of  intermittent fasting comes from today.

    (P.S. - body builders are truly the Guinea Pigs of body looks, Guinea pigs also die. So I would not follow everything that they do. )

  • Right, the one-meal-a-day program is an extreme form of intermittent fasting.

    You can also do a 16-8, where you fast for 16 hours (except water and coffee) and then eat only within an 8-hour window.

    Or else a bit more strict 18-6, or 20-4 (smaller windows of eating) ... all the way to the one meal per day.

    Intermittent fasting not only works to drop weight but it stabilizes insulin levels and also has a bunch of other health benefits, many of them scientifically proven now.

    Very true.  And they often have the luxury of personal trainers and loads of time (since fitness is their day job) to fiddle with things.

    I really think this is a great, long-term lifestyle that many people could adopt.  Only consume calories (black coffee not included) in an 8 hour window.  You can eat 2-3 normal-sized meals in that window and you're not going to starve at all.  And you get the benefits of the 16 hour fast.

    noon - 8pm

  • Since you are a traditional Catholic, I recommend that you follow the pre-1962 Fasting and Abstinence rules and calendar. You can see the schedule adapted to 2020 in the following docuмent:

    If you do the maximum days according to the traditional calendar, you would be fasting for 187 days in 2020. If you consider that fasting in the middle ages meant a single meal in a 24 hour period (the optional "collations" are a later development), and you follow that definition, you will be following the discipline of many of the early Catholic saints. So this is possible, with God's help. You could, instead, do the minimum required with concomitant results. Whichever you choose (maximum or minimum), easing into it at the beginning is probably the best course.

    Most importantly, you should consider fasting as primarily a spiritual practice, not simply a carnal benefit. "Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, after all. And Jesus did say, when asked by his disciples, that certain demons are "not cast out but by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:20).

  • The biggest carb killers that cause weight gain is Cola and Potato Chips. We also live in a fast food society as well which is dangerous.
