DARWIN, Australia (LifeSiteNews) (https://www.lifesitenews.com/) — The government of Australia’s Northern Territory has ordered the transfer of 38 Australians from a remote Aboriginal town to a quarantine facility. Nine people there had tested positive for COVID-19.
The group of 38, identified by health authorities as either positive cases or “close contacts,” was taken in army trucks to Howard Springs quarantine facility, located at a former mining camp near Darwin in northern Australia.
“It is highly likely that more residents will be transferred to Howard Springs today either as positive cases or close contacts,” announced Michael Gunner, chief minister of the Northern Territory, at a press conference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1kGdZjcnz8&t=222s) Sunday.
In the Aboriginal town of Binjari near Katherine, in Australia’s Northern Territory, nine people tested positive for COVID. Both Binjari and the neighboring town of Rockhole are now fully locked down. Residents are not allowed to leave their homes except for emergencies, medical treatment, or “if required by law.”
Gunner described Binjari as a “low-vaccination community” but said the vaccination status of the positive cases “has not been confirmed yet.”
He also thanked the Australian armed forces for assisting with the transfer of positive cases and close contacts to the quarantine facility.
“We are grateful for the support of about 20 ADF (Australian Defence Forces) personnel as well as army trucks to assist with the transfer of positive cases and close contacts and to support the communities,” said Gunner.
According to the Northern Territory’s official COVID website (https://coronavirus.nt.gov.au/travel/quarantine/mandatory-supervised-quarantine), there are two “mandatory supervised quarantine facilities” in that part of the country.
One is located in Alice Springs, and the other, called the “Centre for National Resilience,” in Howard Springs, just south of Darwin.
According to engineering firm AECOM, the facility can host (https://aecom.com/projects/manigurr-ma-village/) up to 850 people.
According to Gunner, more than 3,000 tests were carried out in the Northern Territory within 24 hours.
Officials at yesterday’s press conference urged residents of the affected towns to get tested and announced “an extensive testing effort over the next 24 to 48 hours.”
Gunner also urged people to get vaccinated.
“We will … keep testing and doing vaccinations,” he said. “We did 29 vaccination in Rockhole yesterday; 27 were first dose.”
Gunner burst into a fit of anger when a reporter called him out (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hIKhtCB8PA) for describing vaccinated people who oppose vaccine mandates as “anti-vaxxers.”
“If you are anti-mandate, you are absolutely anti-vax; I don’t care what your personal vaccination status is,” said Gunner. “If you say [you are] ‘pro-persuasion,’ stuff it, shove it!”
“Anyone out there who comes for the mandate … you are anti-vax!” he repeated.
The current population in the Northern Territory is roughly 247,000, with a population density of under one person per two square miles. Over 160,000 people are fully vaccinated. Only 266 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded since early 2020.
This is the facility where these poor people are held for the sake of their health!

A 77-year-old man who was quarantining at Howard Springs has died, with friends claiming a “breach of duty of care” at the facility, after the British man was last seen polishing off a bottle of vodka at the dry facility.
Lucas Malasti, who arrived at the facility three days ago onboard a repatriation flight from Frankfurt, said the man had come from the UK to see his son in Australia, but had somehow managed to sneak in a bottle of vodka which he proceeded to drink in one sitting on Saturday night.
“He sat across from us and consumed the whole bottle of vodka because he was happy to be here,” Mr Malasti said.
“[Staff] saw him intoxicated and put him to bed. The next morning he’s stone dead and the room stinks like alcohol.
“We have a massive breach of duty of care at this facility.
“The other guys are all extremely traumatised by this event. We don’t know how to contact his son.”
NT Police did not issue a statement about the man’s death.
However, Police Commissioner and Territory Controller Jamie Chalker confirmed at Monday’s COVID-19 press conference that a 77-year-old man from an international repatriation flight had died at the Howard Springs quarantine facility over the weekend.
He did not give information as to where the man originated or how long he had been at the quarantine facility.
“He was an international repat. Obviously, he was a 77-year-old individual,” Mr Chalker said.
“We’re just looking at whether they had any existing other issues but certainly the initial advice is not indicating that it was a death relating to COVID.”
It remains unclear if police have opened an investigation into the death.
Some citizens have flagged concerns on the leniency of baggage checks at the Howard Springs quarantine facility and the failure of the NT Government to impose stricter measures at the facility.
Mr Malasti said staff have refused to give him the medication he needs to deal with an ongoing PTSD condition.
“We’ve been nothing but neglected here since we arrived,” he said.
Mr Chalker and police media ignored the NT Independent’s questions about the man’s death. The NT Government also did not respond to questions.

Umm...vodka doesn’t have scent (reason why it’s the main choice of alcoholics), so why did his room reek of alcohol?
They need to do better research. Brits drink gin, and that would have left plenty of scent.
