  • Australia: Immunize Children or Lose Benefits, Parents Told

    November 26th, 2011
    Via: ABC:
Parents who do not have their children fully immunised will be stripped of family tax benefits under a scheme announced by the Federal Government.
The Government says 11 per cent of five-year-olds are not immunised and has announced a shake-up of the system which will take effect from July 1 next year.
Under the changes, families who refuse vaccinations face losing up to $2,100 per child in benefits.
Families will need to have their children fully immunised to receive the Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A end-of-year supplement.

  • So, you see, if a large number of people "woke up" this is the kind of birth-pangs we'd have to go through, as the new world dawned on us...

  • This is a very big concern. I just wonder how long it will be before vaccinations are compulsory full stop.
Will be watching every penny as its a big cut in family benefits.

  • Zenith,

You will probably find this to be helpful:

Parents who join a list of conscientious objectors will still qualify for the full supplement.

You can also make a formal conscientious objection if you have a personal, philosophical, religious or medical belief that your child should not be immunised. You will need to complete the Immunisation exemption: Conscientious objection form available on the Medicare Australia website with the assistance of your healthcare provider. This information will then be recorded with the ACIR

  • You know something is objectively good when the authorities have to threaten and force it on people at gunpoint...

Yes because they are so God-fearing and holy, they are doing it four our own good.

The exemption clauses help stop the hoi polloi from objecting so much when they bring things like this in ... then the rules can be tweaked later and the exemptions can be lifted.

    Thanks RC
Its good to know but I really wonder why they would have exceptions for conscientious objectors because I would have thought that most of those who did not vacinate at the moment would probably fit this category.

Unless it is just part of the slow and gradual process of tightening the scews.

I think you have point that it does stop people jumping up and down and screaming and protesting when they place clauses like that. The noose gets tighter and people put up less of a fight.

  • And Big Brother will end up having a database of all or most recalcitrants, because most objectors will probably register due to the fact that they can't afford, or don't want to lose the tax benefits.
