  • Don't know if you are still interested but it is an interesting question. I can recommend the SAS Survival Handbook. I also found some possibly useful information here about the most commonly found edible plants, as searching for edible mushrooms in a desert would be a waste of time: Edible plants

    Greens are pretty much useless.  You need to find berries (other fruits if possible) and tubers.
