TEPCO, the company in Japan who is responsible for the clean-up, issued a "plea to the world" for help in managing the task quite some time ago - their statement was along the lines of this: "We are issuing a plea to the world for help - the situation to keep this under control is beyond human capability ..." In an effort to keep the scrammed reactors cool, they have been using sea water to flush them, and then dumping the used, radiated sea water back into the Pacific - and this has been going on for years now. I have seen a number of reports of this ongoing activity from different sources - the general consensus being that hundreds of thousands of tons of this radiated water being dumped into the Pacific on a daily basis for several years.

As well, TEPCO has issued reports of underground seepage into the Pacific due to leaks caused by the ever-ongoing breakdown of the building material that was so severely damaged by the 9.0 earthquake & subsequent tsunami back in 2011. I observed videos that several scientists uploaded onto YouTube in the first weeks following the incident in 2011, that were visible for just several days until they were removed under suspicious circuмstances - all the scientists saying that the fallout would hit the west coast approximately eight days after the Fukushima reactors were scrammed. Yet the American government has been downplaying the danger by using several strategies to do so: Hillary Clinton immediately raised the bar for "acceptable radiation levels" to be exposed to; and all of the radiation monitors were removed from sites along the west coast to eliminate the possibility of anyone seeing the rising levels. Our government basically covered up the probability of harm by lying to us rather than informing us so we could take appropriate health protection measures (such as supplementing with iodine for thyroid protection, etc.) - it truly escapes me why they did that.
