Sto lat! Multos annos!
Oh, yes, I forgot ---
zapomniałem --- sto lat!
For all y'all non-Polonians out there in the tradosphere:
Sto lat, sto lat Niech żyje, żyje nam. Sto lat, sto lat, Niech żyje, żyje nam, Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, Niech żyje, żyje nam, Niech żyje nam!
This translates roughly into English as:
100 years, 100 years, May they live! 100 years, 100 years, May they live! Once again, once again, May they live! May they live!
If you ever go to a Polish wedding --- and I
had one of those! --- you will hear that song more times than you will be able to count. Very similar to the wedding scene in
The Deer Hunter, mutatis mutandis for Russian instead of Polish.
(As regular readers know, my son is half-Polish, EU citizen, remains to be formalized. And I did uncover some distant Eastern European ancestry, along with that Senegalese business. And Neanderthal. No surprises there.)
