  • Here is a story I read a couple days ago.

In Chicago the Chief Technology Officer at  ArrowStream Tony DeFrances was demoted.

He sets up a meeting with CEO Steve Levoie and pulls a gun. There is a struggle and CEO Levoie is shot twice in the chest and once in the head before DeFrances kills himself.

ArrowStream is a supply chain technology service for restaurants created by CEO Levoie in 2000. CTO DeFrances until recently was second highest person at ArrorowStream and had been with the company since it started.

CEO Levoie is still in the hospital in critical condition. He is 54 years old.

CTO Defrances had two masters degrees and was 60.

I don't know why DeFrances felt he had to shoot Levoie after working for him for 15 years or what the demotion entailed.

It seems to me that all would have been better off if DeFrances had simply resigned and went to work for someone else.

Perhaps because DeFrances was the CTO of the technology firm he felt his achievements were underappreciated.

    Quote
Tony was a great guy,” he tells CBS 2. “I knew he was very dedicated in his job. He’d always have his PC with his backpack, and he’d always be working on the train. It was just a complete shock to me. I’m shaken, frankly.”

“I really liked the guy, and to hear this is just a total shock. He must have snapped,” Volland added.

Neighbors say DeFrances, who lived in a waterfront home in Tower Lakes, was a nice man who was involved in the community, CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot reports.

  • I don't think that shooting the CEO is a good way to get anywhere in the company.
