"You Can't Lie, Even to Save the World!" (Rev. Fr. Carl Pulvermacher O.F.M. Cap.
1926- 2006)
Fr. Carl Pulvermacher, R.I.P. once told a person I know in the confessional:
"You can not lie, even to save the World, you see, God would never put you in a situation where you had to lie. Saint Athanasias was fleeing the Roman soldiers who had been sent by the Arians to arrest him. He was in a boat on the Nile, when the soldiers caught up to his boat and asked him if he had seen Athanasias, that he was reported to be just ahead of them. St. Athanasias answered, you are very close to him. Whereupon they thanked him and quickly took off down the river.
You can not lie, even to save the World, something which I took to heart every since I heard it 16 years ago. Since then I am very attuned to lies, I find them abhorrent. Forget about the World, everyone lies in the World, the rule is now, the end justifies the lies. However, among Traditionalist Catholics I find that even priests lie if it benefits them, and if they lie, the laity lie much more.
How many people here on cathinfo lie just to win a debate? How many here are really Traditionalists that live by this rule, you can not lie, even to save the world?
