  • So on a local rcommunity forum, I've been engaging the religious sections for a few years now,but a bit more often for the past few  weeks. Theres been another Catholic on there engaging the prots and atheist seculars alike along side me. Ive brought up VII changes a few times, when some have challenged this fellow and his Catholic position seemed inconsistent, in order to explain the discrepancies.

Well the other day he and i started to discuss VII and i invited him to carry the conversation to email, since most there would not be that interested. He agreed, I emailed him, and this was his response (I removed the context of his response as its not pertanent  here) :

Hi Richard. I don't have that particular book.... [I removed the context starting here]

Anyway, I have to drive home to Crestline from San Diego now, so If you don't hear from me any time soon, it's because I'm stuck in traffic somewhere on the I15. Lol.

Nice to make your acquaintance. Talk to you soon and God bless.

  • A chat board has a director of marketing?
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

lol I know. He did seem sincere, but who doesn't on the internet   But I was surprised that he was defending Catholicism against Protestantism quite well and it almost seemed as he was arguing from a position of being against religious indifferentism... but then I brought up Assisi as an example, and he defended it as simply a way to prevent violence in the middle east.

Perhaps we can pray for this fellow. I know I'm not skilled enough to change anyone's position, but with God's help, I'm willing to discuss issues with him and perhaps some good can come of our discourse. But I did find it ironic, considering all the fantastic experiences I hear from people her about cath answers.

Isn't there a radio show by this name, "Catholic Answers"?  Maybe he's a marketing director for that.

Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I gave this gentleman a link to the Ottaviani intervention. He said he hadn't quite read it, but did reply with this:

    Quote
In regard to the link; Justin Martyr's description of the mass is very similar to the Ordinary Form of the Latin Rite, and I don't suppose it was any less reverent than the forms of the Latin Rite that followed it. I have been to some very reverent "Novus Ordo" masses....but I have also been to some that are excruciating to sit through (especially in San Bernardino County). This is not the fault of the "Novus Ordo" but of the men who preside over the celebrations. The same can be said of those TLM's where the celebrant rattles off the words like an auctioneer who is late for a funeral. Admittedly, I only skimmed through the link, but I will read it again this weekend and try to consider it's points a little deeper.

Hoping to get some ideas to help brainstorm on this point. I don't even know who Justin Martyr is, but I will look him up.

I know the mass isn't about reverence, though reverence is essential in showing true Catholic intent, I think, but about a true sacrifice. He admits he hasn't read through it, but how else would you counter the false premise, which he seems to be going off of, that there are still reverent NO masses.

He seems good willed, and if it is the will of God that I be able to speak to him, however unworthy and unknowlegable I am, then I will try my best. He also said he was a convert to Catholicism. I invited him to coffee, but it would be nice to have Raoul, Phyrros, Hobble, GV, Matt, Matt (caminus) with me

I just realized having some of the above mentioned personalities together in one sitting may prove to be counter productive... I would need to make multiple trips.
