  • Were you to sing a religious song by yourself? Would you consider the guitar to accompany any religious song you would compose?

  • Yes.  I think they're fine for private or semi-private music (think singing by the campfire or in the family room with friends).

  • The guitar is considered a profane instrument, but that is only with respect to liturgical events (e.g., Mass, Vespers, etc.[/i]).  There is nothing wrong with its use in private or in public otherwise.

  • Malleus - what type of guitar do you play?  Are you going to finger pick or strum?

  • I wish I could play the guitar, so I could play the accompanying music while I sing this song:

I can't play it at all actually, just wanted to see what people would say of this.

Maybe I like this because the lyrics are sound, it has good harmony and melody, and it's in Spanish, so it's similar to Latin :)

Those who know Spanish will understand the beauty of the lyrics.

  • Malleus - well, being that you are in spain, you would have to get a guitar built in the "spanish tradition".  That means that you would get something built like a "torres".  You can get them at a super good price being that you are a local.  But, if you decide against guitars, I recommend a harp.  I have a spare guitar sitting around, and I have been thinking about replacing it with a small harp.

Here is the best guitarist imo playing his "real" torres([/code]a $100-200k guitar) live with full animal gut strings!

I have yet to see the evidence for this. Everyone says Pope St. Pius X condemned it by name yet the docuмent commonly referred to for this doesn't mention the guitar.

Why does everyone say this but they never produce an actual Church docuмent which specifically mentions the guitar?

I'm not in Spain. Why did you think I was?

Like i said, I don't play any instrument actually.

I only asked if trad people here would play the guitar in this context because this is what Novus Ordos commonly do now and i don't like it, it only makes me think of Protestantism.

Somehow I envision this kind of encounter were I to hear a guitar playing a religious song in Church; :guitar:  :laugh2:
