Were you to sing a religious song by yourself? Would you consider the guitar to accompany any religious song you would compose?

Yes.  I think they're fine for private or semi-private music (think singing by the campfire or in the family room with friends).

The guitar is considered a profane instrument, but that is only with respect to liturgical events (e.g., Mass, Vespers, etc.[/i]).  There is nothing wrong with its use in private or in public otherwise.
