World Youth Day and SIM cards

  • Hi guys,

I'm fortunate enough to be going to brazil at the weekend to witness World Youth Day in Rio next weekend. I don't want to use my regular phone company because the roaming rates are insanely expensive in South America. I was planning on getting a Brazilian sim card when I'm there, but I hear that its next to impossible for non-brasilians to get hold of one. Just as I was getting desperate and thinking that I'd have to leave my phone at home, a friend recommended a company called Telestial.

These guys are based in the US and I'm in the UK, but it did give me something to go on and after some research, i found several UK-based companies, such as ekit, GO-SIM and Maxroam. My question is this - has any one tried using these before? The friend that recommended them to me says she saved a ton at WYD in Madrid a few years ago. I'd really like to be able to use a phone - not least so that I can find my friend in Brazil and say thanks!

    Thanks, and god bless!

  • Weirdest troll ever?
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

    I don't think so...
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

It's the most peculiar kind of trolling I've ever seen.

Trying to figure out what the angle is.

    WYD + SIM cards = ?

  • Though I think the opening post was really trying to advertise something, the best advice that will not only solve the cell phone problem but be beneficial to the poster's soul is to cancel all reservations to WYD and stay home.  This one in Brazil will be the most decadent WYD ever and will be a great occasion of sin.

Is there any specific information that makes you say that, or just the general fact that morals are worsening?

I'm sure you do. The novus ordo sold part of the shrine property to budists. And "the kind" budists offered the sspx to camp out on stolen property. That is what I heard.  Also attending world youth day is proof that deal with Rome was done.

  • I heard that Catholics for choice were handing out condoms to pilgrims at 2011 world youth day.
With the recent sex scandals, world youth day should be cancelled.

I was at WYD Australia, and many of my friends went to WYD Spain where they had horror stories about condoms being passed out. In Australia we were bombarded with Protestant tracts (complete with people dressed in sackcloths and ashes).

The whole thing was really chaotic and awkward.

Even before I became disenchanted with the NO, I swore off ever going to another WYD. I can go on if anyone wishes, but it isn't very edifying, so I'll self-censor and stop here.

Could well be an attempt to advertize cell phone services.  The rates
for 'roaming' in foreign countries are truly far too expensive.  So there
is an element of truth.  But why WYD?  How could anyone in their right
mind think they're "fortunate" to be planning to go there?

Now, if they think they're fortunate to be going to Purgatory, that
makes sense.  It's "infinitely better" than the alternative!  But there
is nothing to be gained by going to WYD, any more than there would
be some benefit to visiting a coven of witches or a seance or a
pagan ritual like Bohemian Grove (Freemasons).

And now, they have the added allurement of wearing the election of
Pope Francis like an ornament on their sleeve.  He's from Argentina,
which is just across the Rio (de la Plata).

What good can come of this?!  Best advice is to   A)  leave your cell
phone home, and   B)  keep your cell phone close at hand.

Specific information?  You mean other than the fact that it is being held in the same country as "Carnival", the heathen festival that is supposed to ring in Lent, photos of which that pop up on Google are incredibly indecent?

No.  I have no specific information.
