  • I do non-destructive testing and inspection at an electronics manufacturing plant.

How did your tow-truck idea work out, Caminus? I knew some independent tow-truck drivers a while back and they had a ball doing it, but they had to be ready to roll 24/7. It's not for everybody.

  • Well, I purchased a truck, but I'm still trying to get it ready to roll.  I'm trying to get some other irons nice and hot too.  I'm looking into the freight brokering business.  I hear it's a hard nut to crack, but if you can make contacts, it could be quite lucrative.

Before all this, I was in law enforcement, until last November.  Me and the corrupt organization that I used to work for didn't get along too well.

When you were in law enforcement, you probably did have some contacts in the freight-brokering business. The problem is that you were most likely standing on opposite sides of the bars!

That's a dirty business in some places, especially anywhere that our bent-nosed friends are prominent. For some reason they find ample oportunities to line their pockets from that business.

  • Really, that's good to know.  I'm trying to research it as we speak.  The appealing thing about it is that I can work from home.

  • SJT, I'm interested to know what people are doing that's dirty in freight brokering so I can avoid it.  PM me if you don't want to bring it up publicly.

  • I have no paying job at the moment, but the one thing I seem to be good at is writing, so... hopefully some day I can turn out something worth publishing... a feat almost universally underestimated, but only rarely achieved.

The last couple of years have been almost fruitless for personal reasons, but... here's hoping things will pick up soon, Lord willing.

  • My last paid career was as a CPA, working for a small hospital.

Now, I care for little people and ship CD orders.

In the future, I'll more officially add teacher to my job description. Our oldest turns 4 in three weeks -- oh my!

A most important profession! We could sure as heck use some decent fathers, mothers and teachers in this world!  :rahrah:

"More officially"? You make it sound like you'll be a professional teacher.

Just so there are no misunderstandings -- Mater means that she'll continue to teach her children, only with a more structured curriculum and in a more formal setting -- homeschooling proper doesn't really begin until there are papers involved, right?

    Yup, that's what I meant.
I think they're having way too much fun right now to be considered "students".  :laugh1:

I thought you meant you took care of midgets, ha ha.

Job-wise, I am in the position of Dulcamara.  I was an English major at UCLA and dropped out with three years of credits.  Then I was an aspiring screenwriter and director and lived off my parents.  Then after I realized I'd have to sell my soul to get a film made, and I converted to Catholicism, I was going to go to seminary before falling afoul of CMRI because I'm not teaching NFP.

Now I am 33 and have never had a job.  This should make it pretty difficult to find one, to say the least.  I'm like the Wolf Boy who grew up in a cave and must readjust to "society," such as it is.

I'm going to start looking and I'll take whatever I can get that isn't immoral.  I don't expect anything that matches my specialty, which is writing -- I'll work sales, farming, in a factory, dog-walking, whatever.  I don't really need the money, but as a Catholic it doesn't feel right to sit around.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.
