  • Candy Vigneri, a 44-year-old Maryland woman, faces charges of child abuse after police say she gave birth in a portable toilet and dropped the newborn into the waste tank.

After exiting the portable toilet in Long Wharf Park in Cambridge, Candy Vigneri got a cigarette from a construction worker and sat at a picnic table, police Lt. Wayne Bromwell said.

As she sat, a male passer-by approached the toilet but Vigneri warned him, "Don't go in there, I just had a baby there," police said.

The man immediately called 911. Vigneri returned to the toilet and retrieved the newborn from the foul liquid at the base of the tank.

The baby was unresponsive and covered with a blue antibacterial chemical agent when emergency responders reached the scene, police said.

Vigneri told officers that she didn't know she was pregnant.

She was arrested Wednesday on charges of child abuse and reckless endangerment and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

The baby is in stable condition at Easton Memorial Hospital. Dorchester County social services will take control of the newborn after she is released from the hospital.

  • What is this world coming to?

And I still can't get over women who make it ALL THE WAY TO THE NINTH MONTH of pregnancy, and don't have a clue they're pregnant until the baby's head is popping out.

Besides the fact they need to go on a serious diet, they also must have a very irregular menstrual period to think nothing of a nine-month lapse. They obviously have never been pregnant before, or they have a HORRIBLE memory. Last of all, they would make a lousy detective:

Those kicks? I guess it's gas.  Nausea? I guess it's the flu. Needing more sleep? I guess I wore myself out flipping channels on the TV last night. Being more emotional? I guess life is getting to me. Backache? I guess that grocery bag full of ice cream and cookies weighed more than I thought. Swollen ankles? I guess I had too many potato chips and I'm retaining water. Braxton-Hicks contractions? I guess my menstrual cycle has returned.

Goes to show you how some people couldn't put 2 + 2 together if you wrote it on a blackboard.  That is, people are HORRIBLE at putting together a big picture.

Yes, the individual symptoms of pregnancy can be INDIVIDUALLY excused, but not the whole lot of them.

It also shows the power of denial -- some people have a lot of faith in birth control, but don't realize just how often it fails.

  • These stories just BREAK MY HEART.  There are so many people willing to put up with a disrespectful, corrupt system in order to adopt babies!

Now there will be months of stupidity before that baby gets a (hopefully) loving and safe family.  We'd take that little baby in a heartbeat.

Sounds like a Neo-Cath explaining away the crisis in the Church.   :laugh1:

  • Yes, there are many parallels.

With many things (9/11, Crisis in the Church, etc.) it's easy to explain away each circuмstance or piece of evidence -- but I keep track of ALL of them at once, and weigh the total evidence.

If you can't keep things in the back of your mind and weigh them as a group, then MANY things will escape your notice.

From the price increases you've noticed at Wal-mart, to the corruption in the mainstream Catholic Church.

On a personal note, I think one of my greatest God-given gifts is my ability to synthesize the big picture out of a multitude of (often conflicting) data.

:laugh2:Okay so I just had to laugh at that.

But this story is tragic, and I think that the woman knew she was pregnant. I don't understand people who try to say they didn't know, because you DO know.

I think she should get attempted murder. Period.

  • Either that, or be institutionalized.

The way she sat outside the "scene of the crime" smoking a cigarette -- and even told a guy what she did -- suggests she might not be operating on all 8 cylinders.

It makes you wonder -- how many times does someone get away with something like this every week? What if the lady HAD NOT been insane, and simply left the scene? That man would have smelled something funny in the port-a-potty, but he might not have called 9-1-1.

How many babies die from neglect on a daily basis? The world is really going to hell in a handbasket.

  • Her telling the guy what she did, "I just had a baby in there" shows that she knew what happened, and wasn't insane, IMO, just callous and non-caring about the situation.

Perhaps she should be locked up, and perhaps seen for a possible case of demonic possession.

Actually, it is true that it is hard for some women to know they are pregnant. I was watching a show on odd pregnanices on TLC channel last night and this woman was out camping with her boyfriend and suddenly got stomach pains. She felt like she had constipation and had to go so she went to the camp toilet and the stomach pain got worse and then she felt something coming out and screamed for help when she realized it was a baby.

She never knew she was pregant because:

    1) Her stomach never got bigger. She was still able to wear her old clothes up until the time that she gave birth. Some women don't even show. When my mother was pregant, no one ever knew that she was with child because she didn't have a bulge in her stomach.

    2) This woman never had any sumptoms of pregnancy. She didn't have any food cravings or have nausea or any of the other stuff pregant woman experience. The only symptom she had was swollen feet but she attributed that to her new job where she was standing up a lot with little rest.

    3) She never felt the baby kicking inside of her. The doctor said that she probably carried the baby higher up or more in the rear and that explains where she never felt any kicks.

    4) Her periods were always irregular. When she was pregnant, she would miss a couple of months of her period but that was not unusual for her. She had light bleeding other months. The doctor said that you can't get your period when you are pregnant but you can sometimes bleed. The bleeding can be mistaken for your period - which is what this woman assumed.

So, yes, it is possible that some woman never knew that they were pregnant (as the woman in last night's TLC show).

  • You can thank the big eugenic helpers (read: corporations) for their hormone mimicking chemicals that they put in the food, water, soaps, and household products.  :cussing:

  • Sorry for reviving this ancient thread, but I spotted someone viewing it, and my interest was piqued.

The thing I always wonder about when I read such stories is: What about the umbilical cord?

  • Sadly, people will use stories like this to argue for abortion.

Women can walk into any hospital, police station or fire station and leave a baby who is no older than two days with no legal consequences as long as the baby has not been harmed.  There is never any reason to do this.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
