  • Because Mary was the New Eve, the one who would crush the head of the serpent.

It was not out of disrespect, etc. as you are thinking.

By the way, Jimc, I would recommend you read a good Catholic commentary on Scripture. Obviously you are interested in Scripture. But there are many difficult things in Scripture "which the learned and unstable wrest unto their own destruction" -- so ANY reader of Scripture needs a guide.

Read a good, traditional Catholic commentary and you will understand a lot more about Scripture.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew

not at all Matthew and you must not be thinking I am thinking any disrespect - btw commentaries and footnotes are not inerrant - btw hold to the idea that Mary was the new Eve and Christ was the new Adam and even in modern parlance my woman means my wife - the new ones,it seems had come to undo the damage done by the old ones - jimc

  • Catholic commentaries and footnotes give the CATHOLIC interpretation of Scripture, which is the only true one.

The common view of Catholic Tradition is NOT in error -- the Modernists might disagree, but Modernism has been condemned by the Catholic Church.

It is a Catholic dogma that men need guidance from the Catholic Church to properly understand Scripture. Are you disagreeing with this?

You are very hard to understand -- is English your second language? Either way, please elaborate on what you mean by this quote of yours.

Surely you are not dubbing me a modernist - nearly 80years old and a cradle to grave Catholic.Of course when it comes to a dispute re interpretation that might cause a division the Church is the final interpretator that must be recognised but meanwhile the Church allows considerable leeway for discussion and debate. It would be most unreasonable and impossible to accept that the Church censors every word and sentence as and when we open scriptures and even the final interpretation we interpret - btw it seems even the catechism is not and has not been totally inerrant - jimc

Modernism is not limited to the young.

What catechism are you referring to?  John Paul II's catechsim?

is a decent commentary.  Also, the Haydock Bible is fabulous.  Unfortunately it is $100.  [url=http://haydock1859.tripod.com/]Here is a link to the Haydock commentary (for free!)  The Haydock hasmore commentary from Church doctors and fathers and saints than any other I have read.  It is great!

I think it is dangerous to rely on commentary that is not Catholic- heck, any commentary after 1962

  • God tells Satan that the WOMAN will crush your head, She is the WOMAN at the cross. Christ is showing the world just who she is. The WOMAN with a crown of twelve stars. And, one more thing, surely you are aware JimC that there is no one more modern than Benedict 16 and he is 80+ years of age.
