Author Topic: Why dont more people know the phrase "Deus Vult"? (Read 2060 times)

I love the crusades, and so I tend to say "Deus Vult!" often, which means "God wills it." It was the phrase yelled out by the people upon hearing Pope Urban II's declaration of the first crusade. Every time I say this phrase to fellow Traditional Catholics they give me a blank stare and ask what that means...

Am I the only one who fantasizes about slaying Saracens and reclaiming the holy land for Christendom?

Yes, you might be the only one who fantasizes about genocide on this forum.

Technically what constitutes the Holy Land is the state of Palestine, which a) has a sizeable Catholic population and b) is slowly starting to be recognised as an independent state. So in some ways, the crusades worked.

The crusades were very very good but saying "Deus Vult" in public is objectively pretty weird, especially given the popularity of the phrase among the 4chan autist demographic.

Many average "Joe Pew" Traditional Catholics (as with people in general) are not well-read at all and have not studied much history, so it's not too surprising that they would not be familiar with the phrase.

Your exuberance is commendable, but you don't want to be perceived as singular or odd by the others. It is good to follow the non sinful customs of polite society and screaming out Deus Vult would get you labeled as a nut or autistic.

You should share your pious practices with your confessor as he will guide you on what is good. Obediance to your confessor is important to not fall into pride or other sins.

No, I'm not. I'm saying fantasizing about killing people is wrong.

Most of the legal immigrants to the West from the Middle East were Christians 30-40 years ago and they've had time to establish another generation, learn the language and assimilate.

Considering the state of the region today, none of them would ever resettle there.

Therefore, a Crusade today would be pointless. Christendom is still alive in the Middle East and it will be until the end of time. The fact that several strands of our Holy Religion are organic to the region certainly helps.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating the concept of defending Christendom from the wicked heathen. Look at how they've been brutally beheading and bombing people. Their sins cry out to heaven for vengeance.

The OVERWHELMING amount of perpetrators of these terrorist attacks in Europe were Muslim immigrants. We should focus on getting them out because they don't belong in Europe. You can help Christendom by deporting Syrians.

Don't you mean slaying a bunch of the S.O.S which is, of course, the current anti-Christ occupying force of the holy land? Then again, if you tried doing that they might very well exercise their Sampson Option which would be one means of bringing on the mother of all physical chastisements upon a very sinful world.

As for Slaying Saracens, Teresa of Avila as a child and in her pious innocence fantasized about something of the reverse order. Instead of sending the Muslims to hell she wanted them to send her to heaven -- and be quick and painless about it! She dreamed of going off to Africa to be slain by Moors. She writes in her autobiography: "We [her and her brother Rodrigo] agreed to go off to the land of the Moors and beg them, out of love of God, to cut off our heads there."
