  • The site has been around for 6 years, but it hasn't been an issue until you brought it up.

Perhaps because English doesn't need accented characters, and this is an English-speaking website.

I'm sure the problem has something to do with the "encoding" of the HTML docuмent that is served up to your (and my) browser. It might even be possible to select a different language in your "Control Panel" -- but I'm not sure. I've never looked into it, and frankly I am not interested enough to look into it at this time.

    Quote
Hosánna in excélsis. Benedíctus qui venit in nómine Dómini. Hosánna in excélsis.
Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.

  • I can use accents too, but perhaps it is because I use Macs (mostly).

  • The forum works fine with special characters usually:
    À à Á á  â Æ æ Ç ç È è É é Ê ê Ë ë Î î Ï ï Ô ô Œ œ Ù ù Û û Ÿ ÿ » «

You've just to type the correct characters or use ALT+keys depending on your operating system. For Windows these ALT keys are listed here, for example.

P.S. If you copy texts with special characters from other docuмents (PDF etc) then it can happen that the special characters are lost...

    P.P.S. Do the German Umlaute work, too? Ä Ö Ü ä ö ü ß § ... yes, very well.  :scratchchin:

It works well also with Control Panel set to "English". If the poster hits the "preview" button and the special characters are there, it should work well.
Savethemales, do you see correct special characters in the "Edit Post" box?

  • English does not use accents

Therefore not needed in English language forum

No one is impressed by others' happy fortune to have opportunity to learn to be multilingual.

  • If you have windows, you can also use a character map to find the letter you're looking for if you can't find the one you want.

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

It's "happy fortune" to be able to pick up a book and read? Or to look on the internet and find a language learning resource? While I agree that it is fortunate that in Europe, for instance, all schoolchildren learn at least two languages, I do not see how any American, with our access to information and the freedom (still) to read it, can say it is "fortunate" to be able to learn another language. Give it a try, you can learn almost a whole language in a month if you learn it the way you learned English. I recommend jezyka Polskiego, but I am biased!

Nah but really, I only respond because your comment makes you seem like a sad little person who is disappointed with his life and must therefore react defensively toward anyone and everyone in order to preemptively avoid being seen as a loser. For instance, your unprovoked comment seems to imply that the OP is somehow being snobbish for asking such a question, as if deliberately pointing out that YOU, NYINDECH, are an idiot who doesn't even know how to speak another language HAWHAW! Man, such paranoia will surely destroy ya.

  • Immersion language learning works best on children.

No coincidence at all. It works best on children because that is how all children, and therefore all humans, learn language. Thus, it is also the best method for adults, too. Sorry, it seems as though you were trying to insult me with your statement of fact, but I must have missed the insult. Hey Jєω york, do me a favor real quick?

    Say: JESUS IS LORD.

    Just say that.

Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:3

Just say it, publicly. JESUS IS LORD.
