  • I've been wanting to ask this quick little survey question on a few forums lately, and I'm only now getting around to doing it.

What is it that drives all of you to continue posting on forums or posting your blogs or commenting in the comments sections on the internet?

  • The hope for community? Finding people with common interests and (most particularly) the Faith? I didn't start until my mom passed away in 2013, exactly 2 years ago next week. And I think even then, I didn't get an account going anywhere until the BXVI thing, which was rather crushing. I may have started looking up Catholic news when Bp. Williamson got the axe a few months earlier, but I was tending to Mom so I can't really remember.

I've really laid off posting or even lurking because of time constraints, and then because of a perceived lack of charity (maybe? Or maybe it's trolls, I don't know). But usually when there's a new set of horrors I hear about after Mass or in the news, I'll hurry something up and try to lurk at least once a month. I guess then, I'm looking for answers. I talk to some Dominicans nuns for prayer intentions, but that's not really "internet forum", nor am I anonymous to them. I suppose it's nice to know if others are as completely horrified as I am about various news items from Rome, and I look for the proper "grounding" or thought processes and prayers about those disturbing happenings.

  • At this point?  Mostly because I don't have enough discipline not to.

A commendably and edifyingly frank and honest answer.

I fear that the majority of my own contributions here have been made for the same reason, though I have striven in recent weeks (with mixed results) to show some more restraint.

  • To instruct the ignorant.  It's unfortunate that it seldom seems to work here.

Thanks BTNYC.  Sometimes I am successful at restraint and other times not so much.  I do find that I have much less interest in the ongoing battles.
