Who would receive the EO if they converted?

  • Simple, honest question for the SVists.

Let's say that ALL of the EO churches woke up tomorrow and wanted full communion with the Roman See and denounce their heresies including Papal Supremacy. To whom should they seek out to accomplish this?

    "Papal Supremacy"? What's that?  :fryingpan:

Assuming that they would really wake up, they would accept all Catholic teaching, and realize that the seat of Rome is occupied by an impostor. Like St. Robert Bellarmine said: The Holy Fathers taught unanimously that heretics are neither Catholic nor do they hold any office, and that's by divine law.

They would also realize, that all other seats occupied by the new religion of the new pentecost are ooccupied by impostors.

They might conclude that the time of the consummation of the world has come. Whether they do or don't, they could publicly pray to Our Lord to declare their return, and hope for mercy, like Catholics do.

Men are not bound, or able to read hearts; but when they see that someone is a heretic by his external works, they judge him to be a heretic pure and simple ... Jerome points this out. (St. Robert Bellarmine)

It's a bit weird to hear R&R types talk about full communion with Rome when they wear excommunications as badges of honour and condemn the SSPX leadership for trying to join with Rome.

I agree with you but I still don't know for sure what "R + R" is.

Like you seem to be defining it as just Williamson's wing of the Resistance (and similar groups), but there are some people who even include things like Sensus Fidelium or the FSSP as "Recognize and Resist" because obviously they disagree with most of the things Francis says on a daily basis, even though they certainly want communion with him.

Along those lines, according to Maria de Agreda, the Blessed Virgin said that we should bow our heads at the mention of the name of the supreme pontiff.

Basically, Ecuмenical Patriarch Bartholomew would fill that role if the Roman Patriarch was unable to receive them. Basically, if Rome is empty and all the Eastern Churches embrace Roman Catholocism, that would make Bartholomew the acting Supreme Pintiff because Byzantium is the Second Rome.
But considering the Schism between Byzantium and Moscow, I think Moscow would probably take precedence since they are like the "Third Rome" (and the only ones to still retain a double headed eagle).
