    Hi all,

Does anyone have any opinion on the different versions of the Raccolta?

    One is the 1910 edition:
    https://www.bookdepository.com/Raccolta-Ambrose-St-John/9781494392567

The other is the 1957 edition:
    https://www.bookdepository.com/Raccolta-D-D-Rt-Rowan/9780970652669

There were other editions too, but these are the ones in print I believe.

    Thanks and God bless

  • My all time favorite is the 1857 Raccolta compiled by Ambrose St. John and his friend Cardinal Newman
Prior to 1857 the Raccolta was only printed in latin and italian.
Ambrose and the Cardinal went to Rome and asked to print one in English.
They diligently compared EVERY ORIGINAL docuмent before including it.
At the front of the book in the introduction Ambrose states, that every docuмent was
signed IN PERPETUITY and that the indulgences were for YEARS NOT DAYS
    in the original docuмents.

I find reading the indulgences most fascinating.  Some go back to the early 1700's
I've only ever found 3 copies of this book in the last 20 years and bought all three on line.

Although not reprinted you can read it below.  Scroll to the bottom of the page for the Index.
Before I got it in book form I printed it from this site.

No updating, revising or liberal editing here!

  • Thank you, Miseremini!

Fascinating that the 1857 Raccolta has "every docuмent was
signed IN PERPETUITY and that the indulgences were for YEARS NOT DAYS
    in the original docuмents."

That sounds like an excellent Raccolta to use. It would be great if one of the Trad publishers issued issued it again.
