  • I am trying to come up with a list of the most commonly sought and difficult to find works by pre-20th century popes and saints.

I'd like to know what you have to say.  Thanks.

Roscoe, I feel your input in particular on this question could be immensely valuable.

Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • As usual my recommendation is to read as many vols of von Pastor as possible.
There Is No Such Thing As 'Sede Vacantism'...
nor is there such thing as a 'Feeneyite' or 'Feeneyism'

  • Von Pastor's History of the Popes from the Close of the Middle Ages is a must read for a serious student of Church history. You probably already own a copy of Fr. Denzinger's "The Sources of Catholic Dogma" as well.

I have no idea where you would find a physical copy of Von Pastor's series though. There was a complete set in the Yale University library. I know that it exists in its entirety (I believe) online as well.

Complete sets of 40 volumes can be found to buy online - abebooks.com has one set for example - but priced over $3,000.
