  • No, the twelve Apostles were ordained Bishops by Our Lord, and they in turn ordained priests (and other bishops). Deacons were also ordained, to help with "lesser" or more practical tasks, to free the priests for the more important aspects of their office.

    By the way, not everything is crystal clear in the Bible, and one DOES need an interpreter to understand it. It's a Protestant notion that one doesn't need an interpreter, or that the answer to all of life's problems (or a complete guide to heaven) is found in the Bible.

    Catholics refer to both the Bible AND Tradition to know what must be believed.

    From the earliest days, only ordained priests offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
