  • I attend some social functions at protestant churches.
What is a good response to this? They are not trying to convert me just making small talk. I don't have a chapel.

  • My mother unfortunately does the same thing, despite being Catholic, because of the difficulty of dealing with "Catholics" - they are the people in her neighborhood.

You should simply tell them you are a Catholic who doesn't accept the modern changes of Vatican II, for that reason you do not attend a Vatican II oriented church.

  • That seems sensible.  Or, you could say your are a traditional Catholic and then explain what that means if they ask you.  I expect many will ask.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • Tiffany,

On Monday I attended a lecture on Vatican II at a novus ordo church, one that I had in the past been a member of.

I simply gave the name of the chapel I attend and left it at that.  I was there for the lecture and not to get into anything with some well-meaning novus ordite.

That's the easy way out.  I may have been negligent to tell them that they are following apostates but then I would have to explain the differences between the Catholic Church and the post-vatican II conciliar church and people would just say things like "The pope defines catholicism" or "Even satan must obey a docuмent once a pope has signed it" or something similar to that.

Did I do wrong by attending a novus ordite pro-Vatican II lecture?  I went there just to hear their side.

I can only envision a few narrow exceptions by which this would not be wrong.  Generally speaking, exposing oneself to a protestantesque/new-age/rudderless belief lecture presents some degree of hazard to ones faith and is thus wrong.
