It's only just, because mankind in its pursuit of becoming like God (with technology, agri-business, the convenciences that oil brings, etc.) has destroyed the earth in the process -- now countless millions get to suffer something in this life, to perhaps merit a conversion before death.

Man is guilty as a race, and must be punished as a race.

Since man has abandoned God, and tried to be "lord of the world" like the devil, I guess it's fitting that the very world is what's punishing him.
