  • I know that once upon a time becoming a freemason was punishable by excommunication.  I was wondering when they changed the law and any details you might know surrounding it.

I'm thinking that it was under John 23 that it was changed but I 'm not sure.

The 1983 Code of Canon Law no longer mentions Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ by name.  So violating the provision of entering anti-Christian secret societies becomes one of those things that's subject to "interpretation"

  • I believe that there have been clarifications from the Vatican since the 1983 Code that Freemasons are included in this ban.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
