  • Do you all realize that you have a limited form of MODERATOR POWER when you quote someone's post?

That is to say, you have FULL CONTROL over every letter that appears in your post, including everything in the post(s) you quote.

Now you should never twist someone's words, or modify your opponents words to make him look foolish, etc. Since that behavior is so destructive to a discussion forum, doing that would merit disciplinary action against YOU.

But censoring a blasphemy, or vile language, or something filthy, is a very good idea. It makes my job much easier, since I only have to moderate ONE post instead of the original post PLUS the 10 responses to it which quoted the blasphemy/obscenity in full!

Something to watch out for in the future.

In fact, you might also consider the moral ramifications of posting a blasphemy -- even if it comes in between a pair of "quote tags".

  • Thanks, Matthew.

I will be sure to do this in the future.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Thank you, Matthew!

It is also a salutary reminder that publishing libel is actionable.

Nobody should put Matthew in the position of having to reveal your ISP or identity for legal remedy because they posted false quotes.

Not everyone has to wait for Judgment Day to be punished for lies.

  • It's a good idea, BTW--I think I may have been guilty of quoting heinous things, so I apologise and will take care in future.

  • Quoting heinous things that are NOT TRUE, such as FALSE QUOTES that could ruin a good man's reputation, is even more problematic.

    Read carefully.

It is also a salutary reminder that publishing libel is actionable.

Are you referring to the FALSE quotes originally provided by the reckless individual who has boasted that he didn't need to read Hoffman to condemn him?

THAT will certainly go over well in court.

How about censoring a typo.  Is that okay?    :reading:

My apologies, I thought you meant Matthew was refering to what was posted about Hoffman, when what he censored was a nasty post someone on that thread wrote against St. Joan of Arc.

Does it change the meaning of the person's quote? No? Then of course it's ok!

I am afraid my posts will keep the censor very busy.

    You're absolutely right about that!
The Holy Ghost, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Thomas Moore, St. John Fisher, St. Joan of Arc, and His Holiness Pope Leo X, are the one's who deserve an apology after being blasphemed by you and your judaizing buddies, maurice pinay and ugly beggar.
You three, true to your tribal nature, really do cry out in pain after assaulting your victims.
