  • Sing "above the fruited plain" and some kid is picturing an airplane full of fruit.  Say Pontius Pilate, and some kid is picturing a guy named Pontius piloting a plane.

Say religious liberty, and some one sees liberty of errors.

    What is it with words?

  • if you have to ask this and know not the difference, then we the Fantasitic Four ( :roll-laugh2:) have little else we can likely offer or say....

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? "

  • While it is true that children misunderstand things, there is no excuse for an adult Catholic to misunderstand words. If they would only READ.

  • Groan!  I peeked.  If that is the case, why was my thread misunderstood?  I used the words several different ways, and people seemed to be reading them and still coming up with a meaning I never intended.

  • I realize this is a discussion forum.  I have also noticed that some here think they will gain a higher place in Heaven, because they are the enlightened ones.

Wouldn't it be nice if a few of these topics here would become positive and popular when someone shared their special devotions.

I doubt St. Peter will allow entrance into Heaven according to your I.Q. or if you were correct because you found some error in St. Thomas writings, or some Pope said this wrong, because as Trinity reminds us, a particular Pope used one quetionable word.

Do you really think you will get a higher level in Heaven because in your opinion Trent said this but Trent meant that. Or this Catholic person is liberal but this one is better to read.

I believe that God did not mean His Church to be so complicated, if so, the unlearned man, could never be saved.

It is interesting to read about opinions of others, but it seem that there is a collection of persons that are quick to inflame and they glory in it.    Myself included in the past here, because it is contagious.   Fraternal correction is good, but could we use a little tact.  Maybe we should think before we type particular WORDS.

"But I tell you, that of every idle word men speak, they shall give account on the day of judgement.  For by thy words thou wilt be justified, and by thy words thou wilt be condemned."  Matthew chapter 12

  • I don't recall ever saying I didn't have Belloc on hide.  Must of been before I did, because I'm not in the habit of lying and after I did that would have been a lie.

Maybe I can go this way.  What does "religious" mean to you?  Honestly, now.  What does the word itself mean?

    Quite right.

I always thought that too.  Do you think He'll ask you "So, little lady, what Mass did you go to?  What??!!!  You stupid fool!!!!  Do you mean you couldn't comprehend all those theological manuals and figure out all those heresies? "

    Or:

"You what???!!  You actually took me at my word when I said that the gates of hell wouldn't prevail against my Church?  Now I've heard everything!!  How dense could you have been?"

No.  I think we'll be very surprised to find out we missed the forest for the trees.  Got so caught up in stuff that we missed the important things - the two great commandments.

My opinion - which will get you a gallon of gas if you add to it $2.95.

  • Hey, got some good replies there.  Gas is too high there, Alexandria.  But your opinion has infinite value because it was Christ's opinion, too.

I take my cue from the saints.  Their exceeding love for God was what made them what they were, not their exceeding hate for satan.  We really are what we ingest.

By the way, I'm trying to find out who said, "People say satan, satan when they should say Jesus, Jesus." or words to that effect.  I think it was Theresa of Avila.

I would sure like to get to the bottom  of this knee jerk reaction to "religious liberty".

    15. Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true.
Proposition condemned by Pope Pius IX in his Syllabus of Errors.

I guess that might be at the bottom of it. I think you must mean something else when you say "religious liberty." I am confused.
