  • Okay, of course, Bp. Williamson has not ruled and does rule any diocese at all in actuality, but what would you think and what would you do if, hypothetically, your surrounding diocese was by the ruling bishop of the diocese ruled Bishop Williamson-style or if Bishop Williamson himself ruled the surrounding diocese? :D  :jumping2: :farmer: :incense:  :laugh2: :duel:

  • Nothing would change for me, so it would be carrying on as usual.

  • I have no idea, as I have nothing to go on, since, as you say, he has not ever ruled anything like a diocese, and a few letters here and there gives one very little insight as to how a man would rule a diocese.

  • Would he dis-allow air conditioning in the Texas heat?

I sure hope not. Well, he would be no civil authority, of course, but not unless if he would actually end up somehow having some kind of influence over the government. Disallowing air conditioning in Texas would be impractical though. The summer heat here I think is now even worse than in earlier days from I have gathered from my mother.

  • Well, I specifically meant during Mass.  I didn't think being head of a diocese would make him head of the state or anything.

Just curious of what you would think Bishop Williamson might implement as head of a diocese?

  • Well, if it is only during Mass, that is one thing, but again, the summer heat here is now worse than in earlier days. I wonder if he would be up for the challenge himself.  :laugh1: I do not think every church edifice is built here where occupants would be able to handle the heat without an air conditioner.

  • Well, in answer to your question.  If no a/c at Mass was part of the Bishop Williamson style, I might have a hard time attending, and be tempted to consider myself too sick to attend more often than I presently do (which is very rare).

Otherwise, it'd be awesome because I'm sure he'd crack down on immodesty, and all the Masses would be celebrated in Latin.  However, I would worry a little about some of his comments regarding women and education may push many to leave the faith.  Sometimes people just leave Catholicism altogether just because they don't agree with their priest.

  •  Don't worry, Miss Fluffy, Bishop Williamson wouldn't turn off the a/c at Mass. That doesn't effect you though, you'd be standing outside with all the other uneducated women.

  • Actually, he might run the A/C but keep it set at 80 degrees (like I do). There's air conditioning and then there's AIR CONDITIONING.

Most malls, stores, etc. use the latter -- where many people need to put on a sweater. It's not natural (or sane) to need a sweater when it's objectively 90 degrees outside.

Remember, he's not Amish or something. He flies on a plane *how many times a year*? He also approved a new state of the art PC for the audio department while I was there. His answer was: "Workmen need tools." He just wants us to understand WHAT technology does to us, then we can go ahead and use anything that is necessary for our life.

Too many people today think technology is 100% positive -- which leads them to use "the more the better". They instant message family members in the same house, keep the A/C at 70 degrees, e-mail family members in the same town but never visit, wear an MP3 player all day, etc. But the truth is, technology often has a downside. There is a place for face-to-face human interaction, nature, silence, etc. which many people today seem to forget.

Another thing many people doesn't realize, is that Bishop Williamson is actually very kind, charitable, and thoughtful. He might be hard on himself, but he showed plenty of mercy to the men he was training to be priests. How much more would he be kind to women and children?

When it came to principles and the Truth, he was like a lion. But if he MET a woman who had a higher education, etc. he wouldn't forget the law of Charity or something. He, like Our Lord, wishes for all souls to be saved. He understands how most people are these days -- it's just that he'd like to change the world to be more Catholic. But he's not going to take it out on one particular woman with a college degree (or even a woman wearing pants). He is certainly a wise old man.

    In Christ,

    Matthew

  • What would I do if Bsh.Williamson came to be the ruler of my diocese? :incense:

If I were of drinking age I would pop open a bottle of Spanish wine :wine-drinking: practice my kung-fu even harder :nunchaku: and wait for the crusade against America! I would also expect the excommunication of about 3/4 of all catholics in the diocese! But it wouldnt happen because if he was installed in my diocese the feminists, masons, homo's and Jєωs would probably assasinate him.
