  • I was thinking, recently, that I've been a bit feisty on my favorite forum, CI. It started out with a thread about a particular member and his banishment. Ever since then I've been more confrontational than I'd like; so for that, I'd like to say I'm sorry.

So I was thinking, I wanted to share why I like coming on CI  and what I get out of it/ have gotten out of it.

The biggest thing CI gives me, is an opportunity to hear how other Trads live their lives. I know that, sometimes, that going to Mass on Sunday isn't enough. Of course you we have prayers and devotions (rosary, angelus, Infant of Prague, etc) which help us spiritually, but coming to this forum has given me the opportunity to speak with other Catholics (especially during the week) where I wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity. First of all, trads who really 'get it' and try to live a Catholic life are scarce (unfortunately... for now).

Second of all all (and its related to the first), working in a secular world, I am constantly bombarded with, well, modernism, secularism, evil, etc. (Of course, I would much rather live on a farm, or something else, but financial circuмstances don't permit.- but another Trad and I are trying to see our way into a more farming/ self sustaining life- lets hope we can do it sooner than later!)

Thirdly, I like to think coming on here has truly opened my eyes to the other parts of the traditional world. That is, I've moved away from considering all other Trads *bad* lol. I started out in traditionalism as a SSPX go-er. I thought and bought into, 'no salvation outside sspx' and all that hooplah. Coming here, has really let me see that we're all in this together, and that in the end, we're all just Catholics 'in-waiting'.

I could keep going, and I will, but I'm also curious about what you think you get out of CI?

  • I am just glad that there are people whom think the same way I do.
We may not agree in every aspect, and how to promote true
traditional Catholicism.  In my 60's, I grew up in a Church that
was every bit Traditional, and for those that have lived as long
as me, we can see that much of the changes from Vatican 2
Council were harmful and must be corrected in order for the
Church to recover. One reason why things got worst was for
those that live through the changes is because many spent to much
time in fighting each other instead of prayer. After all the
Church is a spiritual institution, and not a man made
edifice, in which if it was would have crumbled to the ground
    centuries ago.
Perhaps many on this forum does not like what I write, but
at lease I can say it, and it has never been brought to my
attention that it was out of bounds.
I am glad for the Internet in which I can type, and post my
thoughts instantly, and not wait for a newsletter, newspaper,
    and a magazine.

  • I like the connection it gives us to others who share our same basic outlook on the crisis: Tradition good, NO bad. I also like the intellectual back and forth on different matters of doctrine, though sometimes it gets more contentious and personal than it needs to be.

I typically enjoy posts by Caminus and LordPhan. I also like a lot of Tele's posts on subjects of culture though we disagree on the Society. The Sedes and I obviously don't see eye to eye, but TKGS has some pretty good posts from time to time. Actually I have a lot in common with the Sedes as far as cultural views.

I would like more opportunity to debate Neo-Caths, but I guess that's what CAF is for. ;)

  • Well, CatholicInfo has done alot for me the past year and a half. I've learned alot from reading and posting here. On Friday I announced I was leaving and at the time didn't plan to ever come back. There's another Traditional Catholic forum I post on that's fairly new, but isn't as active as CatholicInfo. I tried to make things work by posting just there, but there just isn't enough activity there to make that my one and only forum. Earilier today I was looking there and saw no new posts and was thinking "Okay, this is boring". I may as well face it: If I'm going to post on a Traditional Catholic forum, it needs to be CatholicInfo.

Before I go on to talk more about the question s2srea brought up, I'd like to take this time to say I'm sorry if anything I said offended anyone. I'm usually a pretty laid back guy who just tries to show as much charity as possible while defending the Faith. But whenever someone or something pushes me over the edge, I have a tendency to do things without thinking about the consequences that may follow, as I did in March when I got into that big argument with Telesphorus. I didn't mean to cause any divisions or big fights when I started that thread about roscoe, I was under the impression that most people here wanted him booted off and was a bit surprised to see so much support for him. But again, I don't think I handled the situation right. So for that I am sorry and am sorry for causing unnecessary drama with the whole "I'm leaving" routine. I'm just going to keep roscoe on ignore and move on. I tried going without CatholicInfo and just couldn't.

The main thing I like about this forum is that it allows me to connect with other Traditional Catholics. I don't have any where I live except for my mother, so it's nice to be able to talk to other Trads online. This forum also has some interesting topics and discussions. Other Traditional Catholic forums don't have that. Alot of the discussions on other Trad forums almost put me to sleep. CatholicInfo always stays interesting.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

I like CathInfo because my "real" life with 4 kids 5 and under doesn't offer me enough opportunity to practice patience.  :smirk:

  • cathinfo has done for me pretty much what stevus said in that it give me an opportunity to interact with people that share my prejudices and enthusiasms, and to learn as well. there a couple other forums that have that appeal for me too (one of which i think ss alluded to), but this forum could be distinguished from others fora by its sharp edge. there are people who think the people here are nuts but i dont find that to be the case at all. i think most everyone here is sincere, well informed, and have interesting things to say.

    It's saved my life!

That is, the servants of Jesus and Mary who have deigned to offer their prayers for me: they have been to me so many "good Samaritans." This is the preciousness of this forum: the truth of the dogma of the Communion of the Saints becomes a living reality here.

Thank you so much, dear friends!

Please ignore all that I have written regarding sedevacantism.
