  • I just saw the Archbishop Lefebvre docuмentary. they showed it after Mass today. It had a lot of information about the Archbishop's life and there were many people interviewed who knew him, including one of the priests who says Mass at my chapel. I liked all of the old pictures they had of the Archbishop from all parts of his life. But there were a few things I did not like about the docuмentary. First, Bishop Williamson was not in it. Second, at the end it had captions that said that in 2007 Pope Benedict freed the latin Mass, and then in 2009 Pope Benedict took away the excommunications from the SSPX Bishops. The reason I didn't like this is because I thought the docuмentary tries to portraty these events as victories for the SSPX when I thought they were not victories but traps.

To those who have also seen the docuмentary, what did you think of it?

  • Another thing I didn't like was this: there were many people speaking in French and for most of them, there was an interpreter who repeated what was said in English, but whenever Archbishop Lefebvre spoke in French they did not interpret it so I had no idea what he was saying.

I didn't like it at all.  It portrayed ABL as "a really nice guy" who just happened to really like tradition.  Read Bp. Tissier's biography and you'll discover a warrior for the Faith.  I particularly disliked all the interviews with the novus ordo priests in civies telling us how much they admired him and how much they love tradition.  We know that's B.S., M.S., Piled high and Deep.  What do people get out of the approval of the enemies of Holy Mother Church?
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

You are right. They did have interviews with some Novus Ordo priests.

  • Of course Bishop Williamson was not in it.  This is SSPX Realpolitik.  Clearly Bishop Fellay has no trouble rewriting history.

Thank you for the heads-up.  This does not surprise me at all.  The Archbishop's 'docuмentary' movie is not a biography at all, but an Orwellian re-writing of history whose principal purpose is to serve the current agenda of Ostpolitik with Newrome.  Of course, it has to be a movie that depicts a Society that Newrome will find appealing, one in which the opinions of Newpriests in skivvies, woops, I mean civies will be depicted as respectable.

It's a costume party IRL, not a docuмentary.

The reality it goes to great pains to portray is the subjective reality of the current Superior General, and they spent a lot of extra money (much of which was contributed, as usual, by trusting Faithful all over the word) to achieve this nefarious goal.

It's another ripoff of the widow's mite, a sin that cries to heaven for vengeance, not a docuмentary.

It's dishonesty besmirching the good name of ABL, not a docuмentary of him.

This is a communist propaganda piece, not a docuмentary.

This is a motion picture screed, not a docuмentary.

Our opportunity to view it will be an opportunity to do more penance.

Only two kinds of people will enjoy this movie:

~  The ignorant (that means innocently so or wilfully so)

~  Those who practice penance well (and are able therefore to enjoy the good parts and truth of the movie while not allowing themselves to be upset over the aspects of deceit and treachery inherent in the lies and omissions).

Knowing what to expect and what to look out for will help us to avoid being so disgusted that we have to walk out fuming and sick long before it's over.

A series of hard questions needs to be compiled.

How can this be called a "docuмentary" when the first and most loyal choice of a successor that ABL had is nowhere to be seen in it?

How many other conspicuously essential elements of ABL's life are omitted as well?

Bishop Tissier de Mallerais wrote a very good biography of ABL -- why is most of it ignored or deleted?

Why are no subtitles provided for the words that ABL speaks in French?

Why would the annoying practice of having a foreign language (French) overstepped by a louder voice (in English) which ruins the experience for French-speaking viewers be used, instead of providing subtitles for everyone?

Why would it not be scandalous that the SSPX would release a so-called docuмentary of its founder which re-packages his entire life so as to make it seem like something it was not?

This motion picture screed is a scandal to children who believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ (cf. Matthew xviii. 6).

    Agreed.

There are plenty of issues inherent in a biography of +ABL released at this time.

From the responses here, it's everything I'd expect it to be. Having N.O. priests praise him, absence of +W, re-casting +ABL as a nice guy rather than a warrior, etc.
