  • Nobody?

Well I posted them because I think they're totally effeminate and I want to see if I'm the only one who thinks so.

    I don't know if they're pre-V2.

  • Yes, obviously this statue is beyond effeminate, it's gαy.

(Besides the general appearance of the statue, did anyone else notice the "rainbow of colors" in the gems going around the halo?)

Anyone with an ounce of common sense who has an ounce of natural objectivity left (i.e., he doesn't live in San Francisco, CA) could tell you this.

Yes, it's good to create statues of the saints. But not all statues are good. A statue could be made to be sentimental, emotional, or even "queer looking". Not all paintings are good (see the thread about the new SSPX church in Spain). Not all sacred music is good. Not all novels are good. And so forth.

Those material trappings, while important and necessary for us human beings in our quest to worship God, can be ABUSED by heretical and immoral men.

I could just picture a troll saying, "You Catholics believe in making statues of the saints, right? Hahaha....here, I'll give you a statue! *trollface* *snicker*"

Look at the songs sung in Catholic churches after Vatican II. Look at modern art (including sacred art), etc.

P.S. I'm not surprised it's St. Sebastian. Just like St. Francis of Assisi is a favorite of the hippies (and has been turned into a hippie), St. Sebastian is a favorite of the gαys for some reason. I have no idea why. He would have condemned sodomy as strongly as any other saint would have.

  • Yeah. They made the statue be in a gαy pose, with the way the arm is behind the head and the way the head looks up.

    The nipples looks weird too.

I have seen other male Saint statues where they put very long eyelashes to them. I wonder if that's post V2.

  • A few other things of note about these 3 pictures:

They seem to be this same statue on 3 different days, because the way it's dressed up varies.  The color of the ropes is changed from the first to the third pic.  And the colors of the skirt and breast sash is different in the second pic.

The ropes are tied very much the same way in each of the 3 pics, but they're not the same ropes, as can be seen by their variation in color.  The way these ropes are tied is deliberately for appearance and not to effectively restrain the victim, that is, not so as to tie him up so he won't escape being shot by arrows (the knots are loose and insecure, as if deliberately for looks only).  They are more for saying, Oh, see, I'm wearing ropes tied to my arms and I hope it looks good on me.

The garlands of ribbons draped behind the statue is an element unique to this one, and I have not seen it on any of the other St. Sebastian statues.  He is usually tied to a tree or a post, but sometimes free-standing without any restraints, or even lying down in some tense pose indicating agony, whereas this statue is posed in a feminine resignation and surrender style.  The garlands appear to be hung over two angled horizontal bars or rods, which are not seen in other versions.

These pics seem to be part of some kind of festival or procession.  The people in the background look like they might be Philippinos.

The eyes are large and made up with long eyelashes and heavy eye liner, which could be for stage makeup, but give the impression of deliberately feminizing the appearance.

Finally, here is a magazine cover shot of Muhammad Ali posing as if imitating St. Sebastian:

  • This statue looks like a drag queen.

    That was my first impression.

    I think it's gross.

Good analysis. Yes, it's used for processions.

Have you ever seen any traditional statue of a male Saint with such eyelashes?

  • In the OP, two of the image addresses contain "diriamba."

Every January, the city of Diriamba, Carazo, Nicaragua, celebrates its patron saint, Sebastian, with a great festival.

    Slideshow

The slideshow linked above contains over 100 photos, about 10 of which include images of this St. Sebastian statue in parade with thousands of onlookers crowding in on the streets.  Festivals like this are commonplace in Latin America, where a rich heritage of the Spanish Catholic faith has mixed with local indigenous traditions, depending on the industry of the local people of each region.

In Diriamba, as in many other cities, people prepare all year long for their local festival, and go to no small efforts to put on a more colorful and festive event each year.  It's really something to see the whole city shut down for a few days while their citywide celebrations take place.

Yes, it's from the parish of diriamba.

But the festivals have degenerated since - of course - Vatican 2. They used to be reverent and solemn before that.

Now it's one big mess with alcohol and parties all over the place.
