What do you plan to give up for Lent ?

Here's one for the books. You know how "fasting" is defined as two snacks and one full meal in the day, when the snacks together is less than a meal. Brace yourself.

I have an acquaintance who told me about his eating pattern for Ash Wednesday, as it was approaching evening time. He said that first thing in the morning he had a piece of pie and some vanilla ice cream. I said, "For Ash Wednesday??" He replied that he had not given up pie nor ice cream for Lent.

Then after a while he had a tuna sandwich.  But later on in the afternoon he had another tuna sandwich. I replied that it sounds like he's all done eating for the day.

His response surprised me.  He said, "But if you take all those things and put them together it doesn't equal a full meal."

So then, apparently he was saying to me that it was now time for the REAL "full meal."

I'm not sure what I should give up. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. :)

How about some common ones:

1. Meat
2. Sweets, desserts.
3. Alcohol
4. Coffee ( I can't drive a car if I do this one).
5. No snacking or go from 3 to 2 meals per day.

This is in contrast to someone I know who thinks that fasting means you're obliged to have a full meal and two smaller meals ("not snacks!!").

How about giving up Wendy's?

Premium Cod Fillet Sandwich

Quote

Our premium sandwich is made using only wild-caught North Pacific Cod, hand-cut from a whole fillet so it's tender and deliciously flakey. It's then lightly coated in a crispy, panko breading and topped with a creamy, dill tartar sauce and crunchy dill pickles.

The North Pacific is an ocean currently having radiation problems from Fukushima.

The Eastern Orthodox still do the olden times fast

actually they are not really eastern orthodox

Quote
"The Mission of the Orthodox Church in America, the local autocephalous Orthodox Church"

in other words they are separated from their patriarch.

the Eastern fast for the large part is different from the western practice.

to them Fasting is when you do not eat  :ie  from midnight to 12pm or 2pm or six pm

fasting Does not occur on Sundays or Saturday because liturgy is in the morning .

abstaining for the East is what you do not eat  Meat or dairy (some wine and oil as well) from the vespers of the Sunday before our Ash Wednesday till the vespers of Holy Saturday.

Video games!

Thinking back at all the time I have spent using them as an escape rather than how they're meant to be used - simply something to do in free time - makes me regretful.

I could be a master pianist by now.
