What do we really need?

  •  I've been wasting a lot of time fiddling around on the net lately (I've been sick, so the body & brain are not exactly fit for much else right now) but one of the interesting things I've come across I really wanted to share with everybody here.

OK, so we've all probably read the posts on "anti-consumerism" and how we all buy too much stuff, and live in houses that are way too big. We've all lived the horror stories of obscenely high utility bills, and who that is just starting out in life hasn't asked themselves whether they'll end up in some roach infested apartment in some shady neighborhood because it's all they can afford now it's time to "leave the nest".

Well, this is something pretty darn cool that SOME people (not everybody) can do about all of that. And if I had a job, I'd probably be the first one to sign up for this new and interesting, compact (downright Japanese... eg, if there's an inch of space, they use it!) way of life.

Check it out! (And make sure you watch the videos!)

  • That's all well and good when you have no children. I'd like to see a family of five even think about a space like that. There is also no room for a chapel. LOL

  • Funny. I checked out this website a year ago and put it in my favorites list. I was considering in the future (when Granny is no longer with us) to buy a small parcel of land and put one of those small houses on it. The reason being is that a real house would cost too much money. When you are unhappy living in your parents house, you start fantasizing alot about getting your own place someday. But now that I think about it, the house is really too small. If I can't afford a house or condo, then I'll just rent an apartment.

  •  Did you notice they came in bigger sizes too?

Another interesting thing I saw lately was the Katrina Cottage from Lowes. There are different builds, but of course, with those you have to assemble them or have them assembled by someone else. They're still smaller than most houses, I think... but not sure. Seems like they have more "wasted space" though. (Who here needs two closets per room or a special dressing area?)
