Look, Christ was raised by a single mother for much of His life, so that is not what anyone is saying, that it can NEVER work.  But mothers who have feminist attitudes and think they can do better without a man could not be farther from the spirit of the Virgin Mary.

I think St.Joseph was around throughout the time Our Lord was growing up, so I disagree that Christ was an exception. We know he was not absent any time before he and Our Lady sought Christ in the temple while they were in Jerusalem, and Our Lord was 12 years old then. In my opinion he did not pass away any earlier than 8 years after, when Our Lord would have nearly finished growing up. God wanted Our Lord's human nature to undergo the natural formation that any young man would have, but in a perfect way as He intended it to be before the fall, and that would require St.Joseph to be present for His instruction and guidance in His childhood years.

I care not for randomized statistics- I however, care for FACTS -

Okay, here's a fun fact for you...

More than 75% of the men in US jails come from broken homes.

Our Lord couldn't have been thinking of the negative effect His intervention would have on society as a whole, when He stopped those men from stoning that adulteress.

You seem to forget what he said next -- "Stop sinning."

I most certainly did not forget that. I point it out in arguments with liberals often enough!

What are you trying to do, turn this act of mercy into approval for adultery?

Not at all.

Christ forgave a woman who committed adultery, and He can forgive a woman who has a child out of wedlock.  That is not what this is about, it's about the general idea that single-parent homes are not an ideal way to raise children.

I know that, but I was arguing with Telesphorous about a different issue. Mercy and punishment. Mercy is allowed!

She most certainly is not, nor am I.  We are just hesitant to second guess Jesus Christ.

That sounds pious but doesn't make any sense.

Lamenting the epidemic of single mothers poorly raising children with no father-figure around to help has nothing to do with second-guessing Christ  :confused1:

I agree we don't have much to say about this mother, since we don't know much about her.  But our time has seen an explosion of women who think that it is okay or even desireable to raise kids on their own and, since this is not what Christ intended, it can only lead to more societal breakdown.

Look, Christ was raised by a single mother for much of His life, so that is not what anyone is saying, that it can NEVER work.  But mothers who have feminist attitudes and think they can do better without a man could not be farther from the spirit of the Virgin Mary.

Well, okay.  Putting it that way, I guess I see your point.
