  • With the very unnerving and disturbing "election" of Francis this month, a friend of mine commented (with levity, I might add) on "pope" Michael (Michael David Bawden).  Obviously, "pope" Michael was "elected" under extremely dubious and unconventional circuмstances but what is your take on his doctrinal beliefs vs Francis'?  I'm just curious as to what you think.

  • I know a little about "Pope" Michael. He has a youtube account here where he posts his sermons. He does not get a lot of views. I know that he has been a traditional Catholic for a long time and for a while he was an SSPX seminarian. I know that "Pope" Michael would probably not be an ecuмenist and I have never heard that he was a heretic, except for believing he is Pope, he seems to be a normal Catholic, if it is possible to falsely believe you are Pope and still be Catholic. I think that if he were really the Pope that he would be better than Pope Francis. There is also this thread on Cathinfo.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • One of the staunch followers of Bawden is this Novus Ordo priest (sic.):

Weird that such a priest (sic.) supports Bawden, going so far as being a member of Pope Michael's Fanclub on Facebook.

  • I would be surprised if anyone on CathInfo has any real knowledge of this Michael fellow.

On the other hand, it's really hard not to be more orthodox than Bergoglio, at least when it comes to the sixth and ninth commandments.

I'm not seeing any mention of Mr. Bawden on your link... I do see a Facebook-style posed picture of a plainclothed man that the caption alleges is a Maltese priest (though he looks much more like a pufta in a cafe than any of the genuine Maltese priests I've ever seen - my own dear departed uncle Giacinto among them).

The Q&A below the picture paints a portrait of a particularly asinine heretic in this "Fr" Debattista, but I can't see any mention being made of David Bawden (the self proclaimed "pope Michael").

Indeed, I can't see what he would find appealing in Mr Bawden, as this "Fr" Debattista finds even the Novus Ordo to be too outdated(!).

God help us, even Malta is rife with Modernism.

Unfortunately he's a priest (sic.) as his Facebook account shows:

    https://www.facebook.com/karm.debattistaii

    He's a member of Bawden's Fanclub here:

BTNYC, are you a member of Pro Tridentina (Malta) by any chance? They seem close to Bp. Williamson.

I'm Maltese-American and I only just recently heard of PT Malta, so no I'm not a member. But I'm glad to hear about them.

I last visited Malta in 2007 and, to my dismay, there was no Latin Mass to be found (apart from a monthly indult Mass at St John's in Valletta, I believe). The people I spoke to - including my mother's cousins - seemed perfectly content with Novus Ordo and found my desire to attend Latin Mass to be odd. That was deeply depressing... as was the experience of visiting St Dominic Church in Valletta, and seeing the beautiful High Altar (where my uncle offered Mass for 30 years) abandoned in favor of the NO table.

So I had lost hope that there was even any desire for Latin Mass in that nation that was once the most Catholic in the world... I'm very glad to hear that I was wrong. I will continue to pray to Our Lady, St Paul, St Dominic, St Pius V & St Pius X for their success.
