  • ...who actually ordained laymen to forgive sins?  I could have sworn that I had read not long ago that there was a pope who gave the powers of forgiveness to laymen centuries ago when there was a shortage of priests because of some sort of persecution going on. Perhaps I read it wrong but thought maybe someone here would know.

  • No, but Fr. McLucas has talked about it a few yrs ago, that lay people were taking that role and likely, was going on, his talk is Why the Indult Solution Failed.....
