  • Thanks to Matthew for permission to post this.

I'm looking for some volunteers to do some light proofreading of Catholic e-books.

At Saints' Books (saintsbooks.net) there are regularly released old books of Catholic devotion -- some of these are gathered from major book archival sites, and some of these are transcribed by volunteers especially for Saints' Books --  and for these there's a need for people to help and do light and quick proofreading of these books to find the typos.

These tend to be the kinds of typos the automated spell checkers can overlook, because they're transpositions of letters that create acceptable new words. For example, 'from' becomes 'form', and so on.

There're some books that it would be good to get out a bit before Lent, and some that need additional proofreading even though they've had a first release. There's simply been a lack of proofreaders.

So if you would like to help, and read old Catholic works of devotion, please send me a PM.

While we need people to do more work than just proofreading, i.e. retypesetting, and if you're interested in harder work like that -- let me know -- I am hoping especially simply to get a couple of proofreaders that can regularly help to do lighter proofing after the harder work is done. People to check the near to final copy for release,  to help keep the final release as perfect and clean as possible.

The proofreading work is light and easy, and requires little technical knowledge. You have to be able to receive an email attachment, and send one (easy to learn), and then simply to read through the file and underline all of what you think are errors and then send the work back. The work does however require some time.

Please reply if you're serious about spending the time. The kinds of books that you'll be working with can be seen in the library. They are rare treasure and very beneficial to the soul. Thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Shin
