  • I coverted about 15 years ago, had no proper Catholic instruction and lapsed after about five years because everything was so lukewarm, especially the Novus mass. Then I came back because of the TLM. That means however that my education is patchy. I read a lot, but still sometimes get very confused!

Can anybody recommend any good straightforward books in English apart from the "Penny Catechism"? Nothing too intellectual.

I started off with "Catholicism for Dummies" and books by Fr. Andrew Apostoli.

  • A great series of books is the "Radio Replies" collection by Fr.s Rumble and Carty. You can probably get them on Amazon, but there is an online version here. They are very practical and answer many questions that you may have.

  • My fav== Isabella Of Spain by Walsh. Also Lives Of The Popes by H K Mann(18 v) and History Of Popes by von Pastor. Mann goes through Boniface 8 and von Pastor picks it up there.

Many of the von Pastor vols can be accessed at wikipedia. If something is censored, it will say... such and such pages unavail.

  • My Catholic Faith by Louis LaRavoire Morrow is my all time favorite. It is simple reading with true stories, anecdotes, illustrations, quotes from scriptures, and pictures included. For those who find reading instructional books tedious, this book is so beautifully written that you won't lose interest at all. Every Catholic should have a copy.

You can find the book on Amazon. (Don't forget to click on the Amazon link on the top or bottom of Cathinfo. page so that ChantCD can get a commission from your purchase)

Of course, if you'd like to buy Radio Replies or Isabella of Spain, you might as well buy it from ChantCD.com.
