  • Would you recommend Una Voce to anyone?

I have zero experience with them and do not know if they are truly traditional in spirit and teaching or simply promote the TLM for nostalgic reasons. Is there anything to beware of in their regard?

    Thank you!

  • An appreciation society for the preservation of superficiality in the old church. In the UK it was populated by the minor aristocracy, retired colonels and professional retainers who like to put on a good show. I don't know about other countries or the present membership.

Excellent way to put it! Traditional Catholicism is overrun with these smells and bells types.

See what you mean. The old church could be the early church; a darling of the progressives before the gold leaf was applied.

  • I would have nothing to do with FIUV. They are not Traditional, and for verification you can check Rorate Caeli, wherein a recent post of Una Voce has explicitly "accepted" new Prefaces on behalf of the laity. They are covering up this fact with a series of "position papers" railing against such things as alter-girls (sic intentional), Communion-a-mano, and so on. These papers are nothing but a smoke screen, and it seems imminent that the Motu-Masses are soon to be corrupted. It may work out in the end, insofar as FSSP and similar will, at least in the short term, become a feeder system into truly Traditional fraternities which don't answer to a horde of (*).
So in summary, Foederatio Internationalis Una Voce is selling out. It's not the same group which Davies headed, and it's current leadership are arrogantly pursuing their agenda, despite having been warned repeatedly what evil fruits their current tack will bear.

  • Agreed. My experience of one of these bodies is that of an endless talking shop. They like to make fun of diocesan life in private but they are so in awe of bishops in public. I rate them not much higher than a crowd of old women after Mass having a gossip about this or that. Put a priest in their midst and they become excited and giggly. Ecclesia Dei/Una Voce are like old vestments in a cupboard that have to come out for an airing. They have been replaced by new ones but some people do like to keep them for no apparent reason.

  • Funny I mentioned Una Voce in connection with Rorate Caeli, because it might explain a lot. Anyone notice that blog is beginning to take on a slightly relativistic tint? For the past few months it's like a bad case of moderation schizophrenia, comments frequently appear then disappear within a few hours. Then presumeably in defense of this they added a post about "cleaning up the tone", which obviously has nothing to do with occasional coarse or offensive
language, which still finds its way into the comments. Now it seems the listowner's posts are disappearing too. The other day one regarding the sinfulness of Catholics participating in Seder meals was posted (including a link to a sermon which was 100% on the money) and now it vanished too. Strangely, one of the FIUV "luminaries" had recently been added as a moderator. Coincidence? It's too bad, that was a decent blog and I hope its owner clues in before his work devolves into another 'bottom of the alphabet' coffee klatsch.

  • The owner of Rorate Caeli put a lot of money on Bp. Fellay and his lost sheep 'returning home' and the bishop was beginning to elbow out the Ecclesia Dei people in importance there. Now that it seems the agreement looks like going the same way as previous ones, the site is shifting its attention to Una Voce matters, hence all those laborious FIUV reports. Coffee and biscuits, anyone?

  • Ok, well that's what I was kind of afraid of. Who says Mass for them? Diocesan priests? What if it were someone's only option for the TLM?

  • I became a lot less excited about UV after they fired John Rao.

  • They really do not do much in my experience.  Just organize an event here or there and tell people where certain special Masses will be held.
