Urgent Calls Needed Today
To Oppose UN Disabilities Treaty!
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Read more about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the threat it poses, and how you can stop it!
http://www.hslda.org/LandingPages/crpd/index.html

Last night, without any warning, Senator Durbin (IL) attempted to bring the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to a vote on the U.S. Senate floor by asking for unanimous consent to ratify the treaty.

Thankfully, Senator Mike Lee (UT) was on the Senate floor and objected to the request for unanimous consent. He held firm in his opposition to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities despite lengthy speeches by Senator Durbin and Senator Tom Harkin (IA) which tried to guilt him into supporting the treaty.

We need you to call both of your U.S. senators right now and ask them to support Senator Lee. You can reach your two U.S. senators by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121, or by using our Legislative Toolbox. http://action.hslda.org/congress/

Give them some or all of this message:

“I urge you to oppose the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This treaty surrenders U.S. sovereignty to unelected UN bureaucrats and will threaten parental care of children with disabilities. Our nation already has laws to protect disabled Americans. This treaty is unnecessary and will hurt families. If the Senate ratifies this treaty, it would be the first time ever that the U.S. has ratified a treaty that obligates us to recognize economic, social, and cultural entitlements as rights under domestic law.”

Then, please forward this email to your friends and family and urge them to call, too.
HSLDA has written extensively about the horrific dangers to U.S. sovereignty and parental rights that are posed by this treaty. You can read Mike Farris’ most updated article, http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/2012/201208200.asp  and you can visit our action page.  http://www.hslda.org/LandingPages/crpd/index.html

The good news is that the U.S. Senate is poised to recess until after Election Day. While we will need to be ready to fight the treaty in the lame-duck session, we first have to defeat the treaty now. Please call today—right now—and urge your two U.S. senators to oppose the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Your freedom and your children’s freedom rest on your shoulders.

For liberty,
J. Michael Smith, Esq.
President, HSLDA
