Are Catholics dispensed from the Friday fast on the day after Thanksgiving? For years the trad parish I use to attend dispensed its parishoners from the meat fast on Fridays. Is this correct?

not sure

I don't see any good reason why the should do so unless there's a feast day I'm forgetting about.

Pope Pius XII dispensed US Catholics from abstinence on the Friday after Thanksgiving. As far as I know that has not been abrogated.
Interesting to note that the SSPX calendar for 2008 mentioned the dispensation, but the 2012 SSPX calendar quotes the 1983 Code of Canon Law---but there is no move to sell out to the Novus Ordo.

I'm old enough to remember that we were ALWAYS dispensed from abstinence on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so I'll be enjoying meat today.

Does this dispensation only include personal left-overs, or can we cook steaks tonight too?

I have been told from multiple reliable sources that the dispensation is not specific to Thanksgiving leftovers. I did read the official English text of the dispensation years ago, but I don't have access to it anymore.
Though the dispensation would allow you to cook steaks tonight, I believe that the spirit of the dispensation was to allow Americans to celebrate the secular holiday as Americans and not leave those foodstuffs to sit too long and possibly spoil. Even with refrigerators, meat will spoil. My family has always restricted the meat dispensation to Thanksgiving leftovers and will continue to do so though this is not required under the dispensation.

That seems reasonable to me. It would not have occurred to me to use the dispensation for anything other than leftovers.

Thanks everyone the left overs were delicious. Compliments to my lovely wife.
