  • Seeking advice from Catholics in Germany:
My sister and I are considering planning a trip to Germany but are concerned with all of the Muslim attacks and wondering how safe it really is to travel there. I am 21 and my sister is 19. We would not have a male chaperone, hence our concern. If anyone who lives in Germany or recently traveled to Germany can give some insight it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    -Jacinta

  • I see this is your first post, so firstly welcome! I hope you will learn much here about the Catholic Faith. With a pretty name like Jacinta you can join the talk in the women's section if only you let Matthew know you are a girl.

I an NOT German, but out of interest ask these few questions:
What is your reason and your purpose in travelling to Germany?
What sort of accommodation would you use?
What would be your means of travelling?
    Have you travelled before?

Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Yes, we have been in Germany.  My highest suggestion is take a tour.  You will have it all pre-planned and there are many advantages.  Your tour guide has a personnel key to the castles.  You don't have to wait in line to buy tickets and the line can be long, waiting for the english speaking for example.

I would recommend the Tour for Cologne.  My aunt and uncle took it and were very happy with it.

    Thank you for your welcome!
We have some relatives there from my Grandma and I've been itching to travel out of country for a while now so it seemed an opportune time. We'd probably stay with relatives for at least a few days then hotel the rest of the time and travel by public transit. I don't have much planned as I'm just getting a feel for whether or not this is a good idea. And, yes I've traveled to Mexico before in a large group but never by myself.

Thank you for your advice and I will certainly consider this course of action!

  • Songbird's suggestion was a good one. Also consider a pilgrimage.

If you have relatives there you can ask them, no? They will be able to advise you. Besides, it is wonderful to know the people of the country, rather than being a tourist. How is your German? Start polishing up what you have, if any. It's always better if you understand, and better still if you speak the language.

  • Welcome to the forum, Jacinta!

I am afraid that I do not have much advice except for Germany in particular, but for women traveling alone in general it is certainly good to be careful.

My little sister and I traveled to Texas alone when I was twenty...

One thing that I would suggest is booking hotels in more safe and populated parts of town, and try not to go out much after dark when possible.

You shall be in my prayers!

Please let us know how your trip goes, and try to visit as many Catholic shrines as possible!  :-)
