  • Do Traditional Catholics live in California?

We're more of the traditional mindset -- after learning almost 10 years ago about VII and the changes in the Church.  We've always lived in CA -- and as a family have only be able to attend a Traditional mass once.  We live 290 miles from the nearest regular FSSP.

But when we interface with other Traditional Catholics online we find that invariable they're in the middle of the country, Kansas is a big one, and the south, followed to a lesser degree in the east.

Is Calif so notorious for liberalism and high cost of living that tradition minded people stay away in droves?

  • There are several traditional catholic parishes in Cali - I'm sure that if you look on the SSPX website you could find a few and also there is Fr. Zapp's parish (he's sedevacantist though) in Martinez.

  • Where exactly in Northern California do you live? I am about an hour north of Sacramento.

  • We live in Siskiyou County.

We can't drive hours in either direction to go to Mass every week.  There's a once-a-month Latin mass in Chico at 2 + hours each way (and it's at 2pm in the afternoon) and then there's an SSPX chapel 1 hour + north of us.  Unfortunately, both our son and daughter have had recent situations come up with guide dog training meetings and with fire fighting classes that are both only on Sundays.  We can only continue attending N.O. Mass here - which is what we'll have to do, attend our parish mass (there's only one on Sunday).

But it just seems to me that Traditional Catholics get out of California if at all possible!  We've noticed there seems to be many in the mid west and even in the south.

    God Bless,
    MrsZ

  • Haha I don't even know where that is...

I cannot wait to leave California either. Although I just might stay, if I can manage to move in with my uncle or grandmother in San Jose.

The closest Mass to us is one hour away in Sacramento. I wouldn't recommend going to the Novus Ordo though....
