Lever action 30-30 made by Marlin. The model is 336w. It's about 350 dollars and will last a lifetime. Don't even need a scope.
Lever action guns are a good place to start and the "kick" will not be too much for any family member older than 12. I would also recommend a gun safety course of some kind.

Happy shooting!

Excellent! Thank you so much!

Also worth pointing out, 30/30 ammo is about the cheapest hunting ammo you can get (FMJ target stuff excepted) and you can get it from pretty much any rural gas station, hardware store, sporting goods store that sells any kind of ammo.

One question Seraphia, what part of the US are you in? the 30/30 is a great first gun but I do know some areas of the eastern and midwest US are too densely populated to use centerfire rifles.  Shotguns only are allowed.  You may want to double check your area if you can use rifles there.  Otherwise ask away and there are many decent and inexpensive shotgun options as well.

Thought I would change gears from long hair and racial stuff to something near and dear to my heart, hunting.

Anyone use a 223 to kill bear? I bought a Benelli MR1 a while ago and took it hunting last week. It was very effective and the bear went down in one shot. About 125 yards. Now I am beginning to wonder why I carried that 30-06 around for so many years when this semi-auto, which is loads of fun to shoot, could have been my favourite.

I use a Leupold v3 R 3-9x40 scope.

Any thoughts from hunters? Please no animal lover hate towards hunters please!

Pax

Ever since my father handed down to me my great model 8, .30 Remington (Cartridge), semiautomatic, I haven't gone back to a traditional bolt action rifle.

But you're not supposed to say it's a semi automatic rifle, oh no! It's an ASSAULT RIFLE!

Hunting is good, it gives us meat, and men like doing it.  God put animals on this earth for a reason, to give man food
